American Gladiators??

jason21nl

yeah, I mentioned to my wife tonight that my strategy on the hand bike would be to crank it 2 or 3 times and just fall off. It'd be much faster to do that and climb up the scaffolding on the other side than to try to do the bike.

By the way, a tip if you don't care about the "fluff": record the episode on your DVR/VCR/whatever and don't watch it live. Then skip everything but the actual events--skip all interviews, focus pieces on contestants, and of course commercials. We were done with tonight's 60 minute episode in less than 25 minutes.

Here is a great Malibu interview at the end of this clip. Im sure many have seen it before, and it might even be posted in this thread already. http://sportswrap.berecruited.com/2007/04/24/great-american-gladiators-video-malibu-whoops-it-up/

Also, I have watch 2-3 episodes this winter and it is pretty bad. The contestants are cliche machines and the Gladiators are really bad actors and are way over the top. The events kind of stink as well. The eliminator looks tough, but I would like to see more Gladiators involved (remember they used to run through a short tunnel and then choose which wall to crash through? One had a Gladiator behind it, one didnt.

The Assault also isnt as cool. They have to load the weapons and that slingshot looks pathetic.

In the Eliminator, it seems easier to fall off the late obstacles than attempt them. Plus, it needs more of the Gladiators (like the original).

I noticed this as well in the one show I watched and I expected that there would be some sort of time penalty.

Yeah, I was scratching my head as they were struggling with the hand-bike. Why not just hang on for a few seconds and jump down and climb up the side if there's no penalty? I know there was a time penalty for that on the original series.

as for assault, I think it would be cool have the Gladiators gun randomly "jam" on them, giving the competitors a bit of extra time.

Wonder what happens if the gladiator runs out of tennis balls.

At least somebody hit the bullseye last night. The way things were going, I didn't think we'd ever see it happen. We cracked up that Hellga was pulled back and then belly-flopped into the water tank.

I watched it again last night, but it really sold me that I won't be watching it anymore. All the bad scripting and controlling is just really annoying.

I also agree with everyone about the hand-bike, it seems way to hard, and most people have figured out to just drop off of it. One of the very first women basically just grabbed it and then let go.

For better or worse, the producers evidently went out of their way to make the current version look, feel, and sound like the original. Short bio of each contestant, scripted presentations, scripted signs in the audience, many of the same events- I could go on and on.

The thought that kept flashing through my mind was "This is just begging to be a parody on Cheap Seats." Which begs the question...whatever happened to Cheap Seats?

I have to say that I have been somewhat entertained. I do however watch a shortened DVR version that takes about 20-25 minutes to get through. Mostly only watch the actual competitions and that's it. I will say that I am impressed by the performance of some of the contenders--mostly the marine girl who bashed her head on the water/fire thing in the begining of the eliminator and still finished even though she didn't win.
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though
