Atlanta, GA recommendations

heresrobin
I am going to be spending the next 2-3 months in Atlanta for work. Do any of you have any personal recommendations of things to do in the Atlanta area? Things like museums, parks, music venues/clubs, restaurants, pubs, etc.? I am also going to need to find a bar to watch all my Packer games. Thanks in advance.

I echo the sentiments for the Olympic Park. You should see Underground Atlanta at least once. You also need to go to Stone Mountain. CNN Center is worth a daytrip. There is lots and lots to do there.

Traffic is bad in the Atlanta area, and customer service in the south is different (SLOW) than what you are used to. My in-laws live about 25 minutes south of Atlanta, and I have a great time every time I get down there.

I liked CNN Center too, I was there for a tradeshow right next door. Hey, if you go to this part of the city, make sure you know where you're going. There were police walking through the tradeshow, warning people not to walk more than a couple blocks away, there's a high crime area nearby.

my neck of the woods...

the georgia aquarium is across the street from cnn and the park...very cool...one of the only places on earth you can see a whale shark

right next to that is the new world of coca-cola which opened over the summer...also cool...

the convention center they mentioned is called the world congresss city---it's ginormous...

there's a plac eon the park called the tabernacle that's a pretty cool concert hall/bar...check it out if something is going one...

the fox theter on peachtree has lots of broadway shows and movies on sundays...it was built in an "arabian night" motif in the 20's, so it'ss pretty cool to see

while in town, be sure to check out Atlantic station---a mix used development shopping mall right next to georgia tech (14th street from i-75/85) Lenox square mall (you might see usher, ludacris, or one of the braves there...plus it's right on peachtree which you should drive down...

the margaret mitchell house, jimmy carter center, ffreedom center (MLK) and ebeneezer baptiost church where MLK preached arre also pretty cool...

finally, if you are looking for something a little off the beaten path, Little five points (take north avenue from he interstate east Moreland and take a right) has lots of cd stores and cool little restaurans...this is where you could catch a concert...

atlanta's a blast...the traffic is horrible...there's nothing fn to do outside of the perimeter unless you love walmart and homedepot..

and finally, avoid the varsity at all costs...it sucks to the high heavens

oh yeah...there are 4.5 million people in atlanta, so if you aren't expecting it, atlanta's a huge metro area
