Brewerfan.net Top Prospect Fan Poll

colbyjack

It's that time of year, time for everyone to submit a list of their top prospects, tally up the votes and see how the Brewers top prospects stack up based on the consensus.

Here are the easy rules:

1. Make a list of your top 20 prospects. Simply rank them 1-20.

2. Be sure the players you rank are still considered prospects. No player with 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched at the big-league level qualify.

3. Email them to me (Patrick): pebert@brewerfan.net

You have until midnight on January 1st, 2007 to submit your list.

The player with the lowest average will be the team's #1 ranked prospect and so on and so forth.

When I have all of the data compiled I will be turning this info into a homepage story for all to enjoy.

So what are you waiting for? Get to it!

perhaps we should have just had #'s 1 and 2 be Braun and Gallardo. Heck, make Inman 3. Then voted for 4-23. That's a lot more challenging

Or, because I know they will be 1-2, I can move everyone else on my list two spots up so my list holds more weight. Bwa-ha-ha.

I have received four lists so far. Thanks for the submissions, but keep them coming. I'm sure I'll receive a lot more after Christmas.

And just so you know, Braun & Gallardo aren't 1-2 on everyone's list. I don't want to automatically speak for everyone by assingning a #1 and a #2, as that kind of goes against the idea of a fan poll. Keep in mind that since everyone's 1-20 aren't going to be the same, the final list is probably going to be 25-30 prospects deep.

One user kindly pointed out to me that taking a reverse average of the scores may lead to some unfair rankings, for instance, if someone is in love with someone like Mitch Stetter more than most, and he receives only one vote, he could unfairly find himself in the top 20.

So, I will be assigning point values in reverse order, 20 points for the top prospect, and one point for the 20th best prospect, and will be aligning the top prospects by total points received.

I have only received 14 top prospect lists to this point in time, and was hoping to get around 50, so please get your lists to me as soon as possible.

I've been hanging around these parts for many years, long enough to know more than any person should about Jeff Pickler (one of the most overly "Harold-ed" prospects of all time...). Thanks for giving a baseball junkie a great place to check in all the time. I submitted my list today, will be interested to see the results.

I put more weight on potential to make a significant impact over likelihood of making it to Milwaukee, so for example I have Jeffress over Jackson and Brewer over Gwynn. I also have more faith in modern medicine than perhaps I should, so still believe Jones and Rogers have a shot...

That was a classic line.

Just a reminder, the poll closes at midnight this evening. I'll accept any submissions that get to me by the time I check my email tomorrow morning, which gives you 7-8 extra hours.

I already have approximately 50, which was my target, so thanks to everyone that participated. Anyone that doesn't participate is not eligible to make any comments on any top prospect list moving forward http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

Although due to a bad back all season long, he didn't have much of an offensive year, but I still like Adam Heeter at 3rd base. He has the best glove in the system, and has batted for both power and average for the Crew.

You should have submitted a list yoda. While 46 different Brewer prospects received at least one vote among 49 different submissions, there wasn't a single ounce of love for Adam Heether (or Steve Moss for that matter http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ).

Toby, I'll send it to you on your bfan e-mail, don't want to clutter up the board.

About the only thing I can say where mine differs is that I give more credit to those who have "proven" they can be role players in MLB, like Gwynn and Rottino.

Al, I received one other submission just this morning. If you want to get me your list it won't require much to add your votes along with the other one I received today. I have everything entered into an Excel spreadsheet, so it's simply a matter of adjusting some of the numbers.

pebert@brewerfan.net

Plus, that will get me over 50, as I currently stand at 49 submissions.

When is this thing gonna post? It's terrible that there's just nothing interesting going on this time of year! Looking forward to taking my 5 yr old son to FL 2nd week of March to see spring training for the first time! Just wish we could get to AZ and see the Brewers!

i'm impressed guys...that list is very good...

that's 19/20 for me, and while i think alcides escobar could play in the majors, he's a long way away...so i'd stick one of the guys that was 20-25 in at 20 and bump everyone up one...but the list looks good..

I was really impressed with the progress--at least statistically--of Mercedes.

I also was a bit surprised at how high everyone has Jackson rated still. He didn't show much in the big leagues or AAA (except compared to Hendrickson and Eveland). Of course, I didn't rank him in my top 20 last year, so I'm a bit skeptical.

Thanks for the work on the list....it is fantastic! The only one that I think "got left out" is Joe Thatcher. His work in Hawaii this fall was incredible, he's a big lefty (6' 3" 225) with a delivery that is a little out of the average, and he is 25 years old....he has a very strong base (physically), and I think he will be next in line to the bigs behind Yo and Braun...maybe just Yo! Thanks for giving me "winter entertainment!"

Not even a token vote for Rob Hinton ("RH the RHP&quothttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ? This guy is going to start turning heads very soon.

See the "others receiving votes." Hinton received 51 total points, which would place him 24th based on this poll, one spot ahead of where you have him on the P50.

I, and a few others, had him ranked in the 15 range. He's already turning heads, he just hasn't received the attention in doing so yet. I will be interested to see where he stands in BA's top prospect handbook among the Brewers top 30.

I too was pretty impressed with the overall results. A tip of the cap to everyone that participated.
