Rule 5 Thread -- Crabbe to Padres (Major League); Bo Hall to Yankees (Minors)

Mass Haas

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com with this note:

Doug Melvin said the Brewers will probably pass on selecting a player during Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, but they apparently were considering John Baker, a catcher in the Marlins system.

Baker was a 4th round pick of the A's in 2002, made the 40-man roster, then was claimed by the Marlins off waivers in December '05. The Marlins then tried to sneak him through waivers themselves, the A's claimed him back, and eventually the teams agreed to trade, with former big-time first base prospect Jason Stokes going to Oakland (Stokes star has since faded).

Baker played in an extreme hitter's park in 2007 at Albuquerque, and posted a .790 OPS. Of course, no participation in Rule 5 by the Brewers will take place unless they free up a 40-man roster spot (they'll need to free up two if David Riske is signed today).
