Rock Band comes out today

patrickgpe
Went to best buy to check it out on my lunch break and it looks pretty awesome. I think it is worth a look at but at 180 dollars for the game along with a mic, drums, and guitar its very steep. Plus id have to find a way to get rid of guitar hero since it wouldn't make sense to have 2 of pretty much the same game in the house. anyone else looking at getting it?

I'm really hoping to be able to find a copy this evening (supplies are said to be very limited on the premium bundles).

Thanksgiving is one of the rare opportunities when I know that I'll be able to find a number of people willing to play the thing, and the game is said to excel in multiplayer environments.

As to getting rid of Guitar Hero....it depends on which version of the game you have. Rock Band works with the XBox 360 Guitar Hero 2/3 controllers (the RB guitar doesn't work on GH, and the PS3 GH3 guitar doesn't appear to work on RB). Since Rock Band has 2 guitar parts, and only comes with one guitar (or none, if you don't buy the bundle)....you'll probably end up picking up a second axe at some point anyway.

bj not sure where you are but i went to the best buy in northridge and there were atleast 10 for each console. I was thinking it would be fun to get one for that very reason. It could break up family tension and i think the sound track is better.

I have the ps3 version. I might just trade it in for some credit torward RB if i get it today or tomorrow.

Well, I found a copy last night.

This was the first time I've played one of the GH games that wasn't attached to an in-store demo. That said, I spent hours last night just playing through the songs on easy mode....and I was quickly reminded why I wanted to buy the game in the first place. I played through about half the songs on easy. (Early Favorites, "Learn to Fly" by the Foo Fighters, and "When You Were Young" by the Killers....not surprising, since I have both of them on my iPod.)

Didn't try the mic or set up the drum kit, since I didn't want to collapse the drums it to take it to my parents a day later.

i was looking into the game online, and there was some confusion from some people i think. You don't have to play all 4 parts to play correct. This game would be fun when i have friends over, but i really don't want to play online to find 3 other people to play when i just want to play by myself. The songs on this game look to be better than those of gh3.

I was at the Bestbuy on 76th street in Greenfield and a couple was rolling out two carts with 3 rock band boxes in each. Leads me to believe they had a good stock. This was on Tuesday around 8pm though.

Please let that be my brother-in-law... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The single-player gameplay is limited to the traditional songlist / increasing difficulty progression that the old GH games have.

The World Tour mode - the most innovative aspect of the game - allows you to start a band, and progress from venue to venue, gradually gaining a tour bus, fans, and all the trappings of celebrity as your band plays larger and larger venues. Unfortunately, World Tour is not available for single-player or online multiplayer; you need 2-4 players to access the World Tour....or you'll have to sing while playing an instrument. (I tend to think they'll eventually patch single-player mode....but that's blatant speculation on my part.)

I haven't touched the World Tour yet, but it is the reason I wanted to get this game before the holiday (as I mentioned earlier in the thread).

thanks, i got the game on lunch so i am going to set it up and bring it to my parent's house tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure i can play it when noone else is around. The world tour part sounds fun but its hard to always have players around to play at the same time.

Id hope that there is a patch to allow single player mode to go through the world tour.

This just in: Drums are hard....but fun!

(Added bonus: it pretty much exactly simulates playing a drum kit, so it's like learning an instrument.)

Unlike Guitar, they throw all 4 drum pads + the bass pedal at you on 'easy' mode. One of my favorite guitar songs (Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters) is amazingly tough on easy drums.

I'm scared to raise the difficulty for most songs at this point.

So I went out and bought a 360 Pro (with free Guitar Hero 2 which I already beat on expert on my ps2.. but wanted the extra guitar) and rock band.

WOW is it AWESOME fun. The drums are fun, but can be hard, I find some songs it's easier to play on Expert then Hard. Anyways.. if someone wants to play some multiplayer over the interweb tubes my gamertag is Poonix. So friend me up!

(Guitar Hero has to be sweating bullets, this game is so freaking awesome. My dad stopped by and played, my little sister as well, and they both enjoyed it)

I have QOTSA and Mettallica Song packs. They are just like any other song, the pack costs about 9 bucks, or about 3 bucks a song.

Good luck beating And justice for all or blackened. UGH

Really? Either your MS points => Cash math is a bit fuzzy, or XBox360 owners are being taken to the cleaners.

$1.99 per song; $5.49 for a 3-pack. (I can confirm the prices on Playstation Network, but I haven't bought anything yet.)

Also, just to keep things current on all things Rock Band, there have been reports of problems with some of the hardware. Some of the guitars lose their abilities to down-strum after a surprisingly short amount of time. (I can confirm this as true, as I placed an order for my guitar's coffin on Saturday. It's covered under the hardware warranty, so in a way I'm glad it went bad this early.)

Yeah, our guitar's strum bar is broke after only a few days of play, but we have GH controllers for the 360 so we can still play at least. I second everyones opinion about the drums, they are tough, but much more comparable to real drums than the guitars are. Love the game so far, guitar is a little too easy, drums are a little too hard and none of my roomates can sing, but our band is on the way to super stardom.

Anyone hear if this is coming out for ps2?
http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3158414

1UP says 'yes.'

...in 2008. (EDIT: EA's press release says 12/18/07, so 1UP's page is probably a misprint.)

The PS2 version would probably be more limited in terms of downloadable content, and I don't know whether the instruments will be compatible with the PS3 version if you decide to upgrade later. (Complete Speculation on my part; haven't been following the PS2 version at all.)

Speaking of guitar compatability, Harmonix (the company behind Rock Band, and GH 1&2) has allegedly created a patch to make PS3 guitar hero controllers compatible with Rock Band. Haven't heard a thing about the compatability of GH 1, 2, or 3 guitars for PS2 with Rock Band....but I would think it would at least work with the first two (since Harmonix knows how they work, having developed the software for the first two games).

(Finally sent my RB guitar back to EA on Saturday. Kind of funny moment, the guy who was in the store just before me was also sending back his guitar; the person behind the counter was wondering why the boxes were so similar, then I looked to see they were going to the same place.)

Thought I should update: the patch does exist...but Activision has requested that Sony not release it to PlayStation Network.

(A link to the Activision response -- you can read the earlier stories from there.)

While my guitar is on its way back from EA, I downloaded the Police tracks this afternoon while watching the Packers game -- the drum parts are fun.
