Amazingly Kenosha Unified School District is holding classes today. The rationale by the decision maker was "well, it wasnt that bad this morning." True, but EVERYONE was predicting 10-14 inches during the school day, on top of the 2-4 we got overnight. Someone made a big-time mistake.

Last year I bought a duplex. We sold our house and moved into one side of the duplex. A good friend of mine lives in the other side. In April, my lawn mower took a crap. We cut a deal. He would mow the entire lawn if I took care of the driveway and sidewalks after snowfall. Hey, no problem, I mean, you have to mow every week, and we get shovel-able snow, what, 3-4 times per winter, right?

My snowblower broke down the first time I used it (carburator crapped out) and I haven't been able to get it fixed. We had no rain from like the end of June til almost September, so the lawn was mowed maybe 3 times all summer.

I'm starting to think I got the wrong end of this "deal".

Snow will continue to fall all day. The heaviest band is located from about Monroe to Madison to Beaver Dam to Sheboygan. Snow will fall 1-2" per hour in this area and some areas are reporting snow totals of 10" already. There's somewhere around 6-8" on the ground in Madison and about 6" more will probably fall.

The other band is currently located in Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha. Snowfall of about 1" per hour is possible in this area.

These bands aren't moving right now but they will eventually push off to the east, so the Milwaukee metro area will get into the really heavy band eventually. I think there will be some 18" totals and most everyone south and east of the heavy band will see at least 10".

The wind is also really nasty and I have another class to go to since UW-Madison is open, as usual.

The Kenosha School District should have known better. The NWS put out a statement sometime after midnight that said the heavy snow was delayed 6-8 hours but was still coming.

Oh, and here's a link to the radar.

Live, from Tosa, and I cannot see across the street. My wife is at work at the only other "open" school in the area aside from Kenosha, The Medical College. Sure, most professors have cancelled their classes and only her and 2 others from her department made it in (neither of them is her boss), but the place is still "open". I guess it is different from Kenosha, everybody at MCW is a grown up and can make their own way in.

I know times are tight, but I was unaware Kenosha lacked the funds to turn on a TV or radio. I did get one call this morning from a friend who said "there is nothing out here, I'm heading in". Well, guess what, the sky is actually falling.

I'm headed out for the 3rd time to shovel/snow blow.

I'd like to retract all my points I had made yesterday in this thread stating I saw no way we would get ahnilated by snowfall. I now believe that getting 400 inches is quite likely and I would now like to move to South Carolina. My brother lives there and about 15 minutes ago I called him. He said he was a bit upset with his weather because he had some work to do outside and it was so warm that he had to take off his long sleeve shirt.

If the airport was not shutdown, I'd go buy a plane ticket to Charleston, SC and beat him up.

I just finished shoveling for the second time and now I suddenly feel nauseous. Right after I finished shoveling, there was already a thin film of snow covering the concrete and couldn't even see cement once again. I also had to change my clothes totally because my jeans got soaked and shirt was soaked even though I wore two layers over it.

Oh, and I was asked by four different people within an hour if I could shovel them out on the street so they drive their cars out. Now my arms hurt too. I find it stupid that my Dad won't even let me use the snowblower so I am stuck shoveling the old fashioned way.

My place of business closed down at 1. I live less than a mile from the office.

How long did it take me to get home? About a half hour.

At least now I can work from home this afternoon and hide out from the snow-pocalypse out there.

Now... why didn't I take that job in Beverly Hills...?

Reminds me of that hybrid car commercial where the buddies agree for their roadtrip... the car owner buys gas, the buddy buys the food. Sucks, man.

Madison schools closed, bowling was canceled tonight, and I haven't been able to see the power plant on the Isthmus (which is about 5 blocks away from my apartment) since about 10 AM. There are times I look out my window and can't see the youth hostel/Cuban restaurant across the street from my apartment. We also have a large snow drift on our balcony. I'm just glad I don't have to shovel. And my boss wants me to come in and work tonight...yeah, I don't think so.

There was a traffic fatality on southbound Interstate-94 earlier today near the Rawson Rd exit. I saw the traffic cam on WTMJ and it looked terrible with absolutely no traffic movement. Stoughton reported 12 inches as of 11:30am today, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. I also checked the NOAA website and as of 1:51pm, a trained spotter in Sturtevant reports 8.8 inches in Racine. The Weather Channel has a person doing outside reports in Milwaukee right now.

Madison Metro is pulling its buses at 7:00 this evening, so Memorial Library on the UW campus is closing at 6:00. This usually means other campus libraries follow suit. I don't know about my library yet - it depends on whether the night guy can get in from the far west side.

A report on the Weather Channel claims 7.8" at the Dane County airport. I think it has to be more in my part of Madison.

I said yesterday that I'd have to see it to believe it...

I've seen it.

Just walked back from my 4th class today (none canceled). Saw a bus blocking 3 lanes of University Ave with about 5 people trying to shovel it out. Drifts of 3-4 feet. Wind. Heavy snow. Still falling like crazy. It's insane.

I love it!!!!!!!

I am not surprised by the Stoughton report. The radar on TV consistently showed a slightly whiter band of precipitation through southeast Dane County a few hours ago. The higher snow totals are lining up with that band.

However, it's not like I'm getting in a vehicle to see for myself. I am reluctant to even step outside the house today, given my bug.

Oh My! Hell has officially frozen over. My former and future college, UW-Whitewater, closed campus at 5:30am today and issued a snow advisory and shut down all academic parking lots. The only time classes were canceled when I was a student there was when an electrical transformer blew, knocking power out throughout the city 2-3 years ago.

UW-Madison has sent up the white flag - classes cancelled starting at 3:30 PM.

Also, East Towne and West Towne Malls closed at 3:00. You know it's bad when they close the big malls.

Mayfair never opened.

I worked from home today in Oshkosh. It didnt snow here really at all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
