It's 80 right now in Texas. Just letting y'all know that there is hope...about 5 months from now!

Yeah, it may be 80 in Texas now...but just wait until July, when it will be over 100 constantly. I'll take our 80 in July any day.

Back to our weather...looks like we have another doozy on our way...

The weather this morning was horrible in Madison.

The storm for Tuesday night still looks to be on track, Winter Storm Warnings have now been posted. South of I-94 will probably get the higher numbers, with up to 8-10" near the Illinois border. Even the Dells and Sheboygan areas could get 6". Winds will increase to make everything even worse.

Edit: This storm is looking more and more to be on track as time goes by. Expect all schools to be canceled as the snow won't be moving out until noon on Wednesday.

Thought you all would like an update on the storm, this could turn out to be huge.

TUESDAY, Feb. 5, 2008, 1:35 p.m.

By Tom Held

Area totals could reach 14-18 inches

If you're pondering a wager on this coming snowstorm, bet heavy on at least 12 inches and throw some long-shot money on 20, at least in some areas of southeast Wisconsin.

The low-pressure system moving north and east from the Missouri Valley has been sucking up impressive amounts of moisture as it moves toward Milwaukee, raising the stakes for a powerful mid-winter storm.

Snow has been falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour in parts of Iowa, and that pace should be continued over southern Wisconsin from about 10 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. tomorrow, according to Bill Borghoff, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

Borghoff said lighter snow will start falling in the Milwaukee area about 4 p.m. and the storm will pick up the pace as the evening turns into night.

The prevailing wisdom among the forecasters puts the totals around Milwaukee at 14 to 18 inches, with upwards of 20 in isolated pockets.

"It's a very significant storm," Borghoff said.

Sweet! I love snow storms (and no, that should not be in blue).

Too bad we're only supposed to get 5-8 inches here in FIB land.

Very light snow is falling on the near west side of Madison. It begins! again.

The State Journal said this morning that if more than a trace of snow falls here today, it will be the 37th day with measurable snow in Madison since December 1 (that is, 37 of 67 days).

And yeah, backing up brewcrew00, the NWS' latest statement has definitely kicked up the predictions a notch:

...SEVERE WINTER STORM TO POUND SOUTHERN WISCONSIN...

.A POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL CONTINUE TO ORGANIZE AND STRENGTHEN

OVER MISSOURI AND TRACK TO INDIANA TONIGHT. THE LOW WILL SHIFT OFF

TO THE OHIO VALLEY WEDNESDAY. THIS WINTER STORM WILL HAVE A LARGE

IMPACT ON THE WEATHER ACROSS THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES REGION. A

SWATH OF HEAVY SNOW WILL AFFECT ALL OF SOUTHERN WISCONSIN...WITH

THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE.

I am dissappointed, FDL has just missed a couple big snows this year. If we are going to get drilled Id rather get 18 than the wussy 6-8 we are getting up here. I love snow as well, nothing like being inside and watching it come down like crazy. That being said this season is getting completely ridiculous, I cant remember a winter this snowy ever. Sure we would have 2 or 3 big storms a year but never some kind of storm every 3-4 days. I am giving an over under for some one blaming global warming for this winter at 10 days.

I don't know. I'm not a meteorologist, I don't play one on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but the armchair weatherman in me says that the totals will be on the lower site of the predictions. I look at the radar now and to me it looks like the heavy stuff is going to go south of us. It looks like the Chicago area is getting hit pretty good right now and all that stuff seems to be going East. Just my thoughts...again, I'm no expert.

About noon I checked weather.com and it said that we were supposed to get less than an inch in the Oshkosh area. Now, it is saying 4-7 and a Winter Storm Warning.

P E R F E C T. I do not have a snow blower and my shovel is already junk from the other storms. Good stuff here in 'sconsin...

The only time I'm going outside tomorrow is when I have to let my two dogs out to do their duty. It's going to be a fun filled day of sleeping in till about 9am, doing some homework, playing Madden on xbox and watching meaningless talking head shows on ESPN.

Tough call on whether the thundersnow and lake enhancement will actually occur. It's very difficult to predict and I don't have the knowledge to say if it will or not. Either way...12, 14, 16, 18...it's a big mess no maatter what and throw in 20-30 mph winds and rural roads will be impassible tomorrow morning.

I'm going to take a shot at guessing the storm totals:

Milwaukee: 13.5

Madison: 9.8

So count me in as someone who thinks there won't be 20-inch totals. I wouldn't be surprised to see some 16-18 totals, but it won't be everyone. However, here's the official forecast graph from the NWS:
