Beckett should have won it.

Sabathia had the better season. A nice look at the AL VORP top 5:

 

1)Sabathia 65.2

2) Carmona 64.0 (criminally underrated)

3) Lackey 60.7

4) Beckett 58.6

5) Santana 57.7

Almost as good a race as NL ROY, but the right pitcher won.

I'd have voted for Sabathia too, although Beckett would have a worthy choice too. It's just like Braun-Tulowitzki - two worthy choices for one award.

Sabathia pitching 240 innings and Beckett 200 is very important. Beckett and Sabathia are very similar pitchers, but I think 40 more innings gave him the edge.

CC would have been my pick, but I would have been tempted to put John Lackey in second ahead of Josh Beckett, based on regular-season performance. Sabathia's K/BB ratio this year was just absolutely incredible, though (200 strikeouts and only 30-some walks).
