Sheets for Crawford rumor

Tom Haudricourt mentioned the following in his blog in response to someone bringing the Crawford rumor up.
"I ran that Carl Crawford rumor by Doug Melvin and he poo-pooed it. I think it came from some fan sight in NY so I have no idea if there was any meat to it at all or if it was just something somebody concocted. Melvin said Tampa Bay gave him no indication it was interested iin moving Crawford. He would be a good fit in the Brewers outfield in 2008 but Melvin indicated there was nothing to it. The other players in that proposed three-way deal were a bit far-fetched, too."

Is that a new word? Like 'fan insight'? I think he forgot his hyphen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif

The Cubs after Crawford would make sense with them moving Jones and Monroe and adding Infante. That said, I think a young lefty starter and their best reliever is a lot to give up, especially since they won't be able to get someone as good as Hill in FA.

they will probably sign Fukudome, that is why they are trading of'ers

Melvin isn't going to say that he's talked to him and were working on a trade right now either.

"Milwaukee gives: Capuano, Parra, Gamel

D'Rays give: Crawford, Upton

Twins give: Garza, Guerrier, Kubel

Milwauke gets: Crawford, Guerrier

D'Rays get: Garza, Parra, Gamel, Kubel

Twins get: Upton, Capuano "

And let's be realistic, that is way too far fetched. Their would be no incentive of trading Upton a future stud if not already and another stud for a pitcher who you could say hasn't had much major league success so far, Parra an injury prone pitcher from the past, a kid in A+ and another injury ridden player who may or MAY NOT become anything in Kubel. Theirs too much uncertainity. I think Garza is valued alot more the other three obviously, but they would want Garza and Parra if not even Gamel for Upton who they say they do not want to trade whatsoever.

Well, the other player mentioned with the Twins is Delmon Young and he probably makes a bit more sense then Upton since he costs more and has had plenty of run-ins with management. I was just going off of what was first reported. Garza is viewed as a potential ace, not many prospects get that label, which is why he is so highly regarded. A 3.60 ERA as a 23yo rookie in the American League is crazy good. And I think you are highly undervaluing Kubel, who put up a monster second half once he was fully recovered and back in shape. While not the defensive player Crawford is, he stands a good chance of outhitting him next year. The Twins would be giving up a ton of talent to get a decent upgrade for their offense, a downgrade in their rotation, and a solid hit to their bullpen. Is it perfect? No. But it's probably not far off.

I think the Cubs are in great position to get Crawford without giving up any current key guy. The could offer Felix Pie, Ronnie Cedeno, Sam Fuld (who's tearing apart the AFL), Kevin Hart, Sean Marshall, Michael Wuertz, and a couple low level guys.

The best player the Cubs would be offering is another outfielder. No way Tampa would accept that.
