Hi all,

An error keeps coming up when I try to download from a new torrent (I'm a newbie at this, sorry if the wording is incorrect). The error says:

Couldn't listen - unable to forward port via UPnP

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks!

First, you should be able to disable upnp in your torrent program (what are you using? I use Azureus)

What its saying is, your firewall or anti virus isn't allowing upnp to function. Not that big of a deal, but it will slow your download speeds.

So, if you need high speeds, you can disable your firewall while downloading or setup your router for port forwarding.

Yeah... hope this helps. If you need more help, let me know!

Thanks for the reply. I am using BitTornado. Is this a decent program? If not I am open to change http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

This is the fix that I believe will work:

If this error suddenly appeared after successfully running BitTornado for a while, try clearing your router's UPnP table.

Does anyone know how to clear my routers UPnP table?

Thanks,

Hammer

At least there isn't a big comcast presence in SE WI. In certain areas they implemented Sandvine which basically resets every bittorrent connection every few seconds. Basically negating any uploading and only allows downloads. Just ask Comcast about it, the play dumb.

Is this something I should worry about?

Only if there is a floral delivery van with a satellite dish on the roof parked outside your house at 11pm.

I'll check tonight.

Depends a lot on your ISP.
I use Pavlov out of Madison. Would it be safest to just switch to something different?

Torrent files themselves are not illegal - it's the content that's questionable. I use torrents to download open source operating systems like Ubuntu (linux) and others, which are completely legal. Some people use torrents to download illegal stuff.

Dumb Question: Are torrents illegal?

Isn't it kinda like limewire?

It is only illegal if you are downloading something you don't own. Example if you own a CD already you can download that CD. I believe it is covered under the fair recording act. At least if you go to court you can argue on the behalf of that law. Its the same reason why Itunes and other companies who do this can sell the downloads.

If I'm downloading something it is usually a CD that I either own or I am about to buy and I just don't want to waste the time putting the record, tape, or CD into my computer.

I maybe wrong on this but if you can make copies of old cassette's by copying them to another cassette tape I don't see how downloading something you already own and then making another CD for your personal use is any different.

If you already own the CD, why not just copy it?

My CD burner has been broken for the past year and I have just not gone out and bought a new one yet. Plus it is less time consuming and the audio quality is sometimes better when downloading the CD than when burning a CD.
