Lincecum Available?

Recommended Posts

i don't know that i'd go so far as braun, but i wonder if some package of hall, gwynn and pick one of our extra starters would get it done if lincecum really is available and it isn't pure speculation on the writer's part.

gallardo

lincecum

suppan

villanueva

For those who don't want to sort through the whole piece, it says the Giants have let it be known that Lincecum is available for a quality bat.

Yes, I would absolutely pursue Lincecum, but no, I absolutely would not deal Braun to get him.

24 months ago there were people on this board advocating Fielder for Zach Duke, I think Lincecum is miles ahead of Duke, but I still wouldn't do it. The Giants would likely want a bat in that class to move that young arm, but for me, Braun is just too good to move, he's not just quality, he's already a monster.

It'll be interesting to see if they actually let him go, I wonder if his delivery makes them worry about future health issues, I can't imagine another reason to turn Lincecum loose at this point.

Young pitchers are so dangerous to trade for. No way I would trade Braun for Lincecum. There's a pretty good chance he gets hurt. I like him a lot, but he's a short RHP and he had a pretty crazy spike in innings last season, I think. Young hitters are a much more predictable commodity, like pogo said.

He's a legit #1 with no history of arm problems.

A wiser man than I once said that there are two kinds of pitchers: those who have had Tommy John surgery, and those that are going to (or something like that).

The thing is Braun for Lincecum may very well be a fair trade, and if Lincecum does indeed become the second coming of Roy Oswalt that would be a tough trade not to make.

Since Braun has asserted himself as my favorite Brewer since Cecil Cooper, I say no way http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

A deal that makes a ton of sense from an outside perspective, given how often his named has been tossed around here, is Carl Crawford for Tim Lincecum. That may not be the kind of impact bat San Fran is looking for, but it could be a perfect match.

I am biased the way Colby Jack is because I like Ryan Braun a lot.

If they weren't both rookies, and we were getting a few more years on Lincecum then they'd get on Braun, then I say do it. But because pitchers seem to get injured more than other players (I don't know for sure, but it seems like it) then it's a bit risky - we're not really trading 5 years of one type of phenom for 5 years of another type of phenom.

It's very tempting to think of having Gallardo and Lincecum a few years down the line being that much more mature, but at the same time after Prince leaves for greener-back pastures, Braun might be one of the only truly special bats we'll have. I know pitching is what wins championships and you'll never go far with out it, but I don't want to wind up being like San Diego where you have great pitching but can never do anything with it since you have a relatively weak line up behind it.

I know it's not right to think that far ahead since anything can happen in a few years, but that's just how my mind-grapes sees this rumor.

First off, Lincecum is a special player. But honestly, he isn't much better than YoGa (If at all, they are very comparable)

And a front line of YoGa and Lincecum would be special for the next five years, assuming they are healthy. But Braun is just as special. So is Fielder. Now if Fielder was about to become a free agent in a year or two....that would be one thing. But we have control of both of them through 2011.

I would consider Hardy and either Weeks or Hart. But I just can't imagine any reason why the Giants would trade him. (Unless they have some concerns about him)

Lincecum may be one pitch away from a career ending injury, but he's also 15 years away from a potential HoF career. His delivery worries me somewhat, but I wouldn't trade for him because I think he might get injured, but because what I would have to give up wouldn't be worth it. I can't believe the Giants would give him up for anything other than one of the top 15-20 hitters in the game. You know, they might just not find a match.

Cabrera is likely available though

That is the exact thing I was thinking End.

I am not sure Cabrera is enough alone however (Given what he will cost compared to Lincecum) But Florida has some real assets that the Giants would be interested in if they were willing to take back salary.

I would imagine Cabrera and Willis would get the deal done.
