The Big Ten Network stole my car

logan82
I feel that the BTN is taking games away from me and telling me I should be getting more games. I feel like a kid stuck in the middle of a divorce where one parent took away my car and told me I deserve that car with a better stereo. I will get that stereo and car when I convince the other parent they should give up the house. What the heck, I had a car before now I have less and was told I deserve more. The BTN rep was talking about providing more games and how some games were on ESPN U or Espn 360. Well by my count I missed one game last year because it was on ESPN 360(which was my own fault because I was lazy) and this year I miss 4 because of BTN. In basketball I think 4-5 were not on TV last year and this year I miss 18 because of BTN. I live in a small town and we have a small rinky dink cable company so who knows when we get it. I also rent so Direct TV and Dish Network are out of the question. So the football season is lost to me now. I am going to go out on a limb and say the basketball season is lost already also. I am so glad hockey is in the WCHA not the Big Ten. In conclusion, screw you BTN and screw you cable company.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I understand the crappy games like Indiana last week being on the Big Ten Network but when two ranked teams are facing off why didn't ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2 take the Wisconsin/Ohio St. game? In the beginning of the year, I remember reading something that said that ABC and ESPN got first dibs on games each week and then Big Ten Network got the scraps. Well either ESPN/ABC are crazy or Big Ten Network somehow stole this game. To me this is a much bigger problem than the NFL Network fiasco, which continues today in many areas including mine, because we are talking about close to 30 games a year between basketball, football, and others that we miss out on. We used to get half of those games but now like logan said we have had our car stolen.

Each team needs a minimum of four football games on the BTN. Ohio St only has three so far, so they had to choose between Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. The Illinois game really screwed a lot of Badger fans' chance to watch the UW vs. OSU match up.

First off ABC picked the UM v MSU which was a mild upset, BTN figured that they would pick the UW v OSU game for sure.

As for the NFL network, you arent missing anything, it is a worthless network, and as of next year wont have any regular season games on it. Owners are pissed and are talking about folding the network. It was in the papers a couple weeks ago.

Yes -- and it bothers me that DISHnet promotes the NFL network as the NFL ticket.

I like the Big Ten network so far -- like DISH, there are usually 3 games I can flip through on DirectTV in the AM, I also watched their pregame last week

which I found preferable to ESPN's gameday -- not that I don't like Gameday -- but I liked that the show was 90% Big Ten features.

I hate to pile on but Badger hockey is on the Big Ten Network 4 times this year.

For the college hockey showcase against Michigan and Michigan State, once against Colorado College and once against Minnesota.

I have Direct TV. Pity the fool that has to fight for their right to The BTN an The NFL networks.

I have DirecTV also. I love that the BTN has multiple channels so that more than one game can be shown at a time.

Would this be a bad time for us DirecTV subscribers to pimp out the $50/$50 referral program?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Yeah, I'm happy with the stand that's being taken against the NFL Network by cable companies. They want more than ESPN, with several channels, mandatory carrying on the basic tier, and they only carry about 6 games a year, which frankly have been awful. And they have no compelling live programming for 10 months of the year. Heck, that's being generous. They have no compelling live programming for over 340 days a year.

The BTN is more compelling since they'll be able to cover more sports. That said, I've no interest in compelling my cable company to carry anything that's from a "for profit" network. Let them negotiate like all other businesses.

both are at fault.

both are unwilling to negotiate.

they both have an idea of what they want and are unwilling to budge.

i am starting to side with the cable companies because i am getting sick of the BTN network saying they are not at fault, etc.

compare it to free agency. someone (BTN) is asking for a ridiculous salary, and someone (DTV, Dish, etc) is willing to pay for it. consider DTV, et.al. the yankees in this case http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Don't forget that satellite TV is not a viable option for everyone.

As chat room regulars might already know, I often prefer listening to radio broadcasts of sporting events if I can't attend them in person. So the BTN/Charter conflict hasn't bothered me yet.

Based on the hassles posters with satellite have described over time in trying to get Brewers programming, if I have to choose between ready TV access to the Badgers and ready TV access to the Brewers, I will choose the latter, and stay with cable.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

First off, for tomorrow's game...Every Big 10 team has to have at least one conference game on the BTN. Ohio State has yet to have a conference game. For some reason, ABC/ESPN has broadcasted every OSU game so far. There have been a couple that were question marks, such as against Minnesota and Northwestern. Those, in my opinion, should have been BTN games. But, from what I understand, ABC/ESPN have first and second choice as to what games they broadcast, unless it comes down to a situation where a team hasn't been on BTN yet, such as is the case with OSU. So, ABC/ESPN picked the OSU-Illinois game to broadcast as well as the OSU-UM game (duh!), which essentially left only the UW-OSU game left to be picked for OSU's conference BTN game.

Also, why is Badger hockey on the BTN? The network is the Big 10's network, not the WCHA's network. Yeah, UW is a Big 10 school in every other sport, but the Big 10 does not sponsor hockey and has no affiliation with hockey what so ever. If it did, all Big 10 schools with hockey would be in the same conference.

If you live in a small town, it seems that you're more likely to see the BTN before those of us with Charter and TWC. Many of the Madison suburbs have reached agreement with BTN and will be broadcasting the UW/OSU tilt this Saturday. Interesting dynamic going on right now where the smaller companies seem to be thumbing their collective noses at Charter and TWC by picking up BTN now before the big game.

Time will tell, but losing 18 basketball games this year will cause the other half of the major demographic to revolt. I don't think we'll have this problem next season, but I think this season is a total loss.

Time Warner and Charter are to blame. 100%

No way. For once, it's the cable companies that are correctly taking a stand against BTN and NFL Network. Their demands are insane.

Its a chicken/egg thing IMO. BTN and NFLN have every right to demand whatever they want, but the cable companies have every right to not pay if they think they will lose money on it. As it is, there are options, so its not like nobody in Wisconsin can watch Badger games. I understand that some people absolutely can't have a satellite dish, but if it is that big of a deal to get these channels, nothing is stopping you from moving.

Let's re-visit this thread during the Packers-Cowboys game.

Isn't the Packers-Cowboys game going to be carried on local over the air stations, at least in Milwaukee and Green Bay?And it will be carried at many sports bars. And anybody that gets Sunday Ticket will be able to watch it. I expect that amount of people that truly get shut out of watching the game will not be a number that will be overwhelming.

Thats one game, for me and judging by ratings that the station it could be off air for the times that it doesnt have a game on and no one would notice.

When you have a family it isn't as easy as just deciding to move.

To be perfectly honest I have no interest whatsoever in watching teams other than Wisconsin. BTN offers minimal coverage over what I was already getting even if I would have it. I am not as upset with 4 hockey games being on BTN. I would guess that it only really amounts to 2 games this year because I doubt the collwge hockey showcase against Michigan and Michigan State would have been shown anyway.

Right, but it's still an option. Another option may be to go watch the games someplace else (tons of people have satellite dishes). If it is that important that you see these games, do something about it. If it's not that important to you, then don't worry about it.
