Brewers should go after Bay

If Pirates fans would actually be upset about trading Wilson instead of celebrating, well thats just sad.

Any other time, Bay would be a great target. You could just assume its a down year. However, its not any other time. Bay went into a down turn right after the crackdown on PEDs. Its much harder to deal with a down year given that.

I can't see the Crew going after Bay. 1st, he's a long term solution and it shouldn't take LaPorta that long if what people say is true. 2nd, if Braun really does need moving then we've got another logjam. On the other hand, whoever does end up with Bay could have quite a find. I bet he's just got Pittsburghitis and once outta town flourishes again.

So you would pass on a guy like Bay if the price is right because of Laporta??? Don't get me wrong Laporta COULD be good, but Bay has proven to have the necessary skills to help take a team to the next level. He's not the best out there, but in my books he's easily a top 10 OF in the National League. Hard to pass that up.

As far as LaPorta, people are saying the very earliest he would be up is probably September of '08, but even that is probably optimstic. LaPorta is not necessarily a "sure thing" like Braun, Fielder, Hardy, etc.

The Brewers are past the point where they should be worrying about potential acquisitions, based on what minor leaguers they need to protect spots for. They are firmly in "win now" mode, one has to assume.

i do understand laporta was putting up good homerun and rbi numbers. and i do apologize if this has changed, but wasn't he only batting around .273 in winter ball?

He tied for the league lead in homeruns with 6. He only hit .241 but had a .351 OBP and an .851 OPS.
