Mike Lamb

Interesting idea to throw out there. How about signing Mike Lamb as a utility guy to take some ABs at third from Hall? He'd give you a platoon benefit there and pretty good insurance if Hall is struggling again. He's got a low K rate and good OBP. I know it assumes the Brewers doing something there is no evidence they have considered, but perhaps Doug is just playing it close to the vest, so he can try and get the best value on the market.

"as a utility guy to take some ABs at third from Hall?"

Did I miss something? Hall is still the CF.

Lamb is well below average defensively at third. He's played a handful of games in the OF, but I don't think he's a option there.

In short, his best position is DH. He'd be a great lefthanded PH, but I'm sure he's looking for a platoon opportunity somewhere.

well let's hope he is the 3B next year, but the Brewers are to stubborn to make that happen. Lamb would great, we would have a back up first baseman too. The one thing that concerns me is the defense, I think if the Brewers sign anyone they need to be able to play solid defense, but his .ops the last two years has been very productive.

Sign me up for Lamb! One of the smaller bench roles we need to cover this offseason is an infielder that can cover third base (Counsell's fine for 2B and SS, but we need a little more offense for the corner infield spots). I had thought bringing back Cirillo for that role would be nice, but Lamb's got a little more oomph.

On another note, while it might make sense to move Braun to left and return Hall to 3rd, I have never seen an indication from the organization that they are considering that... so it seems silly to assume that's the plan going into next year.

brewerfan82, what about Joe Dillon? Isn't he good enough offensively to back up the infield corners?

Even if he ends up being the righthanded LF platoon, barring injury, Braun and Fielder play virtually every day and if needed you could move Dillon there and replace him in the OF.

igor67, the guy you suggest moving Braun off of third for (Lamb) made 33 errors there in his rookie season (.913 fielding %). Those are Braun like numbers. Lamb has improved some from those days, but that just shows it's likely Braun will too.
