Torre to Dodgers

Honest query - did LAD just become involved in the A-Rod race? Because I'm very leery that that's a reason to make this move. The dischord in the locker room is an even better one, but call it a win-win. A-Rod loved/s that hitting coach. Oh yea, and money. If only LAD needed a 3B/SS...

I figured Torre would have another job whenever he wanted. I honestly thought he was going to pull a Piniella and sit out a year to re-energize. Oh well, good luck to him.

Wait, weren't there rumors with the bench coach vacancy last year that Grady Little might have been considered, or am I thinking of something else?

You had to see this coming when Mattingly said he would not be a coach for the Yankees next year. It's interesting that the AROD to Boston rumors essentually ruined Nomar's career with Boston and ultimately his baseball career went down the toilet. I wonder what Nomar is thinking now about the Torre and AROD rumors. it would be interesting if the Dodgers offered AROD the opportunity to go back to playing shortstop. It's not like Furcal really did much this past year. Furcal could move to second or the bench. if the Dodgers signed AROD, they could trade 3B La Roche or Furcal for something half way decent in return.

Good move for the Dodgers, although Torre isn't Superman (or Supermanager). Still, he'll bring a lot more to the table than Grady Little did. However, this could be bad news for Dodgers relievers, including Proctor, who probably had breathed a sigh of relief when he was dealt to LA midseason. OTOH, the idea that Torre frags relievers is just something I've picked up from Yankee fans, not something I've done a lot of research into.

So, LA is probably now one more team the Brewers will have to fight for a playoff spot.

Also, before Little got the Dodger job, he was rumored to be coming to Milwaukee to be on Yost's staff. Yost has an opening again, I wonder if they'll talk. I was against it at the time because Little is startegically even worse than Yost, but it would be an interesting move to hire a guy that 2 of the 3 highest revenue teams thought highly enough of to put in charge.

Don Mattingly following Torre to the Dodgers is also interesting, considering Mattingly's son Preston is a prospect in the LAD farm system. I could see Torre managing for a couple more years, then handing the power over to Mattingly, who would get a chance to manage his son.

The Dodgers were already being brought up in the Alex Rodriguez talk, but this move probably makes them a top contender now. The only problem I can see is that A-Rod says he wants to stay in the AL, but Torre going to an NL team might change that. Finding a position for A-Rod might be a problem with the Dodgers, but with a player of his caliber, you get him under contract and worry about where he's playing later.
