Take from it what you wish, from different city

I am just going to give you the email from my buddy Drew who lives in Tampa and is a huge D-Rays fan and you can react to it.

Hey bro,
WFLA channel 8 is reporting this rumor on their news tonight that the D-Rays are getting close to trading the only player most fans like in Carl Crawford. We in Tampa have no idea why they would consider trading our best player, and if they say it is for Dukes they might as well move the team to Mexico. WFLA said that the 3 GM's spent the past 3 days in Denver discussing deals. What do you think and have you heard anything up there about any deals?

Milwaukee gets:
OF Carl Crawford
RP Joakim Soria
RP David Riske
C Joe Buck
OF Emil Brown

Kansas City gets:
OF Rocco Baldelli
OF Gabe Gross
SP Claudio Vargas
SP Edwin Jackson
Prospect SP Jeff Niemann
Prospect 1B Brad Nelson

Tampa Bay gets:
SP Carlos Villenueva
RP Derek Turnbow
RP Joel Peralta
OF Ross Gload
Prospect 3B Mat Gamel

Would be huge for the Brewers.

Where do I sign up for this? Gaining 2 very good bullpen arms, a better starting catcher and freekin' Carl Crawford is certainly 3 of the team's biggest needs. I think the Brewers would easily get better with that trade. Losing Villa would be the worst part of it, but obviously you have to give up something for a guy like Crawford.

I'm guessing the official TV report was only that Crawford could be traded, and they've already been in serious discussions. His friend, the emailer, then made up a potential trade involving the Brewers. I don't think he said the TV report even connected the rumor to Milwaukee.

ok so I shot back a email at him and this is the first chance I got to check my email due to the Packers game but here is what is fact. The TV station is reporting that there is a rumor going down that Carl Crawford would be coming to Milwaukee as part of a 3 team trade with the Brewers and Royals. He then made up the rumor. I agree about the unlikely chance that this trade would happen which is why I said take from it what you wish.

However personally, I think if you were to get a player the magnitude of Carl Crawford you probably have to start with either Parra or Villenueva and then another prospect. I don't know if Tampa has the guts to trade Crawford who took a hometown discount to remain there a few years back.

Thanks for clarifying, MtB. Very cool of you to do so. Interesting to hear such a big rumor, and with the Renteria trade going down pretty big today, it's a reminder that nothing is set in stone in MLB.

Im pretty sure Riske is a free agent.

He has a club option for $2.85 million for 2008, that could be picked up and traded. I hate losing CV but you'd have to do this deal. You'd still have Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan and Capuano who could start but to add two good bullpen arms on top of getting Crawford? Just too good to pass up.

Edit: Forgot about Buck too, good power, would allow us to trade Estrada if they wanted, how's his defense?

For what it's worth, I checked the WFLA Channel 8 website's Rays page (http://www.tbo.com/sports/rays/) and nothing in the headlines or blog for essentially the past month mentions anything of this kind. A few Rays fan sites mention nothing about this.

wfla.com links to Tampa Bay Online (tbo.com), which is also linked to the Tampa Tribune.

Either this is a flat-out ruse (no offense, Madtown Bomber) or MTB's buddy is making this up and MTB's taking him at face value.

It's intriguing enough to want to believe. But short of a link or corroboration, and especially in light of all the love for Carl Crawford on this site, I'm very skeptical of any validity here.

The option actually became a player option with 60 appearances (he had 65). Don't see any reason for him to pick it up when coming off a career year which allows him to get a multiple year contract from someone.

I can't see the Royals making this deal for the simple reason they'd be completely gutting their bullpen.

From the Brewers perspective, it weakens their starting pitching depth considerably though they'd still have 6, counting Sheets, Suppan, Gallardo, Bush, Parra, and Capuano. Still beyond them, nobody in system is close to major league ready.

Man oh man that was fun trying to get my head around that. But I agree with Briggs, it guts one team in an area while stockpiling in another area. It's too perfect for the crew to work. Now if we whittled it down. Villy, Gamel, and Turnbow for Crawford I'd jump on that, but probably too one sided.
