Girardi to Yankees

patrickgpe

Girardi was offered the managerial job of the Yankees and he is expected to accept.

No suprise here, I didn't think there was anyway they would turn the reigns over to someone like Mattingly who has never managed or Pena. I always assumed Joe would get this job. I think its a good hire for the Yanks. He is someone who knows the pressures of playing in NY. I don't think he is going to phased by the differences in managing in Miami vs New York.

Team Canada, you have no idea how obnoxious yankees fans are. They are every bit as classless as cubs fans. Trust me I know first hand.

Most of my friends and family are Yankees fans, and they aren't classless, a bit arrogant in believing the World Series is theirs to win each year, but I wouldn't lump all Yankees fan together. Obviously the larger the following the more likely you will encounter obnoxious fans.

I've been very critical of him in the past because of his poor use of young pitchers. If he didn't abuse the young guys he had in Florida their record and his reputation would have been something less than it is now. Given his track record and the fact that getting the Yankee job after his moderate success in Florida I wouldn't expect him to think he did anything wrong in Florida. Thus I believe the chances of him changing his attitude towards young pitchers won't change anytime soon. That said he will have talent in NY and if he does burn out a pitcher they'll just go out and buy him a new one. If he is capable of being a good manager in certain circumstances I would think the Yanks would be the one he'd succeed in.

I used to think Girardi was a pretty smart guy. Who needs the grief; who needs a meddling boss; who needs a self-serving media bent on destroying people, and who needs fans that don't understand suffering--nobody.

I don't understand how this should mean that one would hope that the new manager ruins two young players careers. I know this is shocking, but I think there are atleast a handful of classless Brewers fans out there too, and I would hope that just because a fan from another team encounters some of them that they don't wish injury upon Yo, Braun, Prince or any of our other young guys.

As for Girardi, who knows he might have learned his lesson in Florida, maybe he will be more cautious about the way he uses the Yankee's young arms. Sure, I'm bored with seeing the Yankees win, but it is what it is.

I honestly think that all this stuff about Girardi being some sort of cruel monster that feeds on young arms is laughable.

Look at the starters from that 2006 season. D-Train and Ricky Nolasco actually pitched less innings in 2006 than they did in 2005. Josh Johnson saw an increase of a whopping 5 IP! Oh, the humanity!

You can certainly make the case that Scott Olsen and Anibal Sanchez were overworked, and I would agree with you considering that both had injury histories. But sometimes you take risks. I would say that Sanchez probably pitched around 30 innings more than he should have that year -- in the same respect, it's hard to shut down a guy for the year after he's thrown a no-hitter and has electric stuff, especially when you are still in the hunt for the playoffs. What kind of message does that send to your fans? (Insert joke about Florida not having any fans.)

Gallardo went slightly over his "limit" this year, pitching 187.2 between AAA and Milwaukee. What if we would have taken the division title and made a World Series run? You better believe that he would have gotten 3-4 postseason starts, and probably finished the year with the same level of "abuse" that Sanchez had.

Nobody talks about Gardenhire being a taskmaster because of what happened to Liriano.

Risks like a shot at an 82-82 record instead of the 78-84 mark they finished with in 2006? The criticism is not so much just that Girardi overused, but that he did so in a year where the Fish weren't going anywhere. They finished 19 games out of first in the NL East, and missed the WC by 4 games. They were 3 games better than us in 2006.

I wouldn't count on that.

I hate that ESPN is making a big deal about this!! The Red Sox just won the world series. Who cares about the manager of an average team??? If Ned Yost got fired and we got a new coach should ESPN make a big deal of it? Especially during the world series?? NO!!! ESPN is really ticking me off lately! The Arod situation is even worse. It made me sick to see on ESPNEWS in the corner say this "BOS Wins World Series-AROD OPTS OUT" Tony Kornheiser on MNF does not help things either
