Appleton/ Pearl's in Madison

Patrick425
Is anyone here familiar with Appleton night life? We are going up to there next weekend and meeting some friends. How are the college avenue bars? Any good bars with dancing (casual atmosphere, not bouncer at the door letting you in based on your "look" type places)? Is it lively on a Saturday night, or is it kind of dead? Someone mentioned Park Central to me..what's that like? Thanks.

I live in Appleton and do a lot of deliveries dowtown at night but honestly don't go to bars for entertainment purposes very often.

For the size of the city the downtown is pretty good. Sometimes really busy sometimes not so much. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there was a few halloween partys going on yet on the weekend. No smoking in any public buildings so if you smoke be prepared to go outside. Park central is a good place to start. Route 66 is another place that you might want to try. There are plenty of small bars and resturants downtown to chose from. Some of the smallish bars have bands on occasion though I don't know what specific place ahs something this weekend. If you want a good place for food try Koreana on Northland avenue. Authentic korean food, good sushi, good kimshi (sp?) nice people. The Bul-go-gi [(sp?)(Korean barbeque)] is my favorite.

I've been pleasantly surprised at the number of bars/clubs on College Ave. I've had a great time when I've gone up there.

And if next weekend is opening weekend for deer hunting, you will have about an 80/20 ratio of girls to guys. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of the non-smoking thing. My wife and one of her friends smokes. Do the bars have designated areas outside to smoke.

We are actually meeting friends that we have not seen for a long time from farther north (UP). The girls want to dance, while the guys will sit at the bar and drink. Does Green Bay have a smoking ban? We basically would like a place that has a hotel close by and where there are several night spots with good crowds (and dancing) within walking distance. Our plan with Appleton was to stay at the Raddison...that whole non smoking thing could be an issue though.

Most places have people hanging outside smoking. Some of them have beer gardens outside but, no, there are few if any places that have an indoor smoking area. Appleton has one of the most restrictive smoking bans in the state.

there are a ton of bars up and down college ave. Park Central and Wet are the dance clubs. I haven't been to either in a few years because every night there is a fight. The Bar on the Ave has a dance floor as does Anduzzis (my favorite bar). They both have bars downstairs and upstairs with dance floors on both levels. Another nice bar is Drinks Inc. Its located above Wet. I love the no smoking ban since I'm not a smoker. However when you go into a bar, you have to walk through all the people smoking outside. The Raddison Paper Valley hotel is right in the middle of all the bars. The oposing players from NFL teams stay there when they are playing the Packers.

The Raddison is an ideal place to stay. I saw Roy Williams and a few Lions out a few years back there. As far as Park Central, I'm not a fan. Like jason said, there's usually fights and that kind of nonsense. The Bar is pretty cool and usually there's enough room to dance, etc. and there's enough people (ie enough space). Anduzzis is cool, but the times I've been there it's usually pretty packed.

Decided not to do Appleton. The whole non-smoking thing was an issue among other things. Long story...women can be hard to please sometimes.

Can anyone give me any information on Pearl's in the Crown Plaza hotel in Madison? The whole hotel/bar thing is appealing because don't have to worry about driving or traveling around. Is it super trendy? Do they get good crowds on a Saturday night? Will they turn us away because we are not cool enough, or is it just a have fun bar with a dance floor? Any help is appreciated.

No one mentioned Cleo's on College Avenue yet? They serve drinks in glasses the size of fish bowls.

Isn't that the place that has Christmas lights year round? I went to school in Oshkosh and always had a pretty good time whenever we hit the bars in Appleton.

I have no experience with Pearl's, but State Street is always a possibility. Cabs run essentially 24 hours or you may be able to talk the shuttle driver into running you down there. Again, it's non-smoking throughout Madison, however none of the suburbs have the same smoking restrictions. However, if you're looking for dance clubs, Madison isn't necessarily your place. Not too many if any in town. Unless of course, you're into fetish clubs, then Inferno is your place.

Maybe, but good luck flagging one down at bar time.

Yep, that's the place with the Xmas lights year round. I went to UWO as well, class of '86, and always enjoyed road tripping it to Appleton. Many, many good dives to dash into along College Avenue, and the intersecting side streets.
