Weekend Vacations

mikevan1818
I'm thinking of planning a little weekend vacation for my fiance and I. I dont really know where I want to go. We have some frequent flyer miles built up - so I kind of want to do a "leave Friday morning - return Sunday night" type deal to somewhere interesting where there is fun and interesting stuff to do. Not anything with beaches or that kind of stuff - I'm just looking for random ideas. Anything anyone has done would be apreciated. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

There is no place like New York.

Fly into Newark, take the NJ Transit train into NY Penn Station, and start from there.

You can come in for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, or for the NYC Marathon, or for Christmas shopping, or Broadway, or just walking around and seeing the sights.

I can never get enough of it.

Hey Mike - considering you and your fiance are pretty avid sports fans, it might be fun to catch a Packer game in another city, if it works out. I was in Kansas City this past weekend and touring Arrowhead was by far the coolest part (that and the Negro Leagues baseball museum).

I'll echo New York, although it could be tough to only stay a couple days - there's just so much to see

I am a bit weird with regard to vacations -- I live in rural Wisc., I like to vacation in cities. I like wandering through downtowns looking at old courthouses/churches and other buildings of interest.

If I had 3 choices of places to spend a weekend -- I would choose SF, NY and Denver.

However, here is a random idea. I took my family to Cleveland for a weekend this last summer. We had a hotel downtown, overlooking Lake Erie. I got to walk around Cleveland's downtown -- which I found neater than I expected. Visited the Rock n Roll HOF, (which was right on the lake) and then took my son to Canton (about an hour) to visit the NFL HOF, while my wife and daughters did some shopping. Certainly this trip was not exotic by any means, but it was a good time.

I recommend Seattle......maybe moreso in the summer but it's a great city any time of year.

We were in Seattle for a few days last summer, and it was pretty sweet.

I'd look for a MLB city where we could maybe take a stadium tour (since some teams do them in the off-season), but that would only work if your fiancee also likes baseball.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
