with today's game, he's got to be slugging close to a thousand, not to mention the the bb/k rate...

he's dominating AAA like rickie weeks did now....i think the brewers might not be able to wait until june...its becoming clear that braun could be one of the best hitters on the team this season...

Well, at least the Brewers were able to do the most important thing here, making sure they can get 6 and 5/6 seasons from Braun before free agency instead of just 6 like they would have gotten if he opened the season with the team. Braun having 4 years of arbitration isn't the worst thing ever. The increased revenue of making the playoffs would easily offset what they'd have to pay Braun as a super 2 Arby case.

Now, does having Braun as a Brewer in May significantly increase the teams chances of a playoff spot? We'll have a better answer in 2 weeks.

no, its become increasingly obvious that we need as Ned said, to get Graffy his at bats. I mean if he 1000 minor league at bats he might hit what Braun would hit in 400. Its gotta be the defense, which one had a throwing error today? Oh yah, Graffy.

Final: Nashville 10, New Orleans (Mets) 3

Braun Homers Again, Sounds' Win Streak At Five

METAIRIE, La. ? Ryan Braun and Vinny Rottino each homered for the second straight game and Zach Jackson worked six strong innings to lead the Nashville Sounds to their fifth straight victory, a 10-3 triumph over New Orleans on Sunday afternoon at Zephyr Field.

Nashville (6-4), which posted a double-digit run total for the second straight day, has recovered from a 1-4 start to the year with its current five-game winning streak.

Braun (2-for-3), who leads the Pacific Coast League with five home runs on the season, got things started for Nashville in the top of the first inning by swatting a one-out, two-run shot to right-center against Z?s starter Adam Bostick. The prospect has belted four roundtrippers in the last 24 hours after tying a Sounds single-game record with three on Saturday evening.

Neither team scored again until the sixth, when the Nashville offense exploded for five more runs to put the game out of reach. Joe Dillon started the rally by drawing a bases-loaded walk that greeted New Orleans reliever Ivan Maldonado. Mike Rivera added an RBI groundout and Rottino delivered a two-run single before Ozzie Chavez ended a season-opening 17 at-bat hitless drought with a two-out RBI double to up the Sounds? lead to 7-0.

New Orleans got a run back in the bottom of the frame on a two-out Carlos Gomez double that extended the outfielder?s hitting streak to 11 games for the Z?s.

The teams each plated a pair of runs in the seventh before Rottino (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) closed out the evening?s scoring in the top of the eighth by belting his second home run in as many days, a leadoff solo shot to center against Lino Urdaneta. It was Rottino?s third home run of the year and brought the score to its final 10-3.

Chris Barnwell scored three runs for Nashville in the winning effort.

Jackson (2-1) picked up his second consecutive win for Nashville after allowing one run on two hits over six innings of work. He walked two batters and struck out one.

Bostick (1-1) took the loss after being touched for five runs in his 5 1/3 frames.

Luther Hackman and Jose Capellan each tossed a scoreless frame of relief for the Sounds, running their season-opening scoreless inning totals to 4.0 and 6.1, respectively.

The teams wrap up the four-game series with a 7 p.m. finale on Monday evening at Zephyr Field. Nashville sends right-hander R.A Dickey (0-1, 5.40) to the hill to face New Orleans right-hander Phillip Humber (1-1, 5.63).

When Braun comes up, I think he will hit 7, and they will slide Hart down to 8. Either way, it will be nice to have a bat like Ryan's hiding in the bottom of the order and it will make the pitcher's spot the only hole in the lineup.

Florida Today:

Doing well. Though their stay in Brevard County was a short one, Yovani Gallardo and Ryan Braun left lasting impressions on Manatees fans last season.

On Saturday, they did the same thing in Triple-A.

Braun homered three times off of longtime major-leaguer Chan Ho Park and Gallardo had 12 strikeouts in six scoreless innings as the Nashville Sounds blasted the New Orleans Zephyrs 14-1.

Both players started 2006 in Brevard County before being called up to Double-A Huntsville in late June. Braun was a terror at the plate and Gallardo dominated on the mound, including a June 9 performance against the Jupiter Hammerheads in which he came within two outs of recording a no-hitter.

"When Braun and Gallardo were here last year, they put on exhibitions," Rogers said. "They're both going to have long careers and I think both are going to be household names."

On Sunday, Pinner still was boasting about Braun's power display.

"He is a horse; he is a stud," Pinner said. "It's like, who's going to be the star this year? As they say, we're growing them good on the farm."

Future doubleheader. Sunday's scheduled game against St. Lucie was rained out and will be made up on Saturday, April 28 as part of a doubleheader. The first game will start at 5:00 Pm (4:00 Central)., and the second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.

Space Coast Stadium gates open at 5 a.m. -- that's right, 5 in the morning. Fans will be invited in to attempt to break the world record for first pitches thrown for a game.

Last season, fans threw 5,906 first pitches on Sept. 2, breaking the previous record by "a couple hundred pitches," Rogers said. But the game was rained out, voiding the accomplishment.
