Coco Crisp?

His offensive numbers have declined since he was with Cleveland, but the defense is still there. I don't know what Doug Melvin is thinking at this point, but if they want to move Braun off of 3rd, Bill goes to 3rd, and you've got an opening in center where Coco could play. As long as he keeps up his good defensive play, he's extremely valuable to this team. Plus, his contract isn't bad at all. I believe it's around $5 million per year for the next 2 years, and then an option year after that.

He'd have to be traded for, and I'm not sure what the Sox would want. Any ideas?

Crisp's offense has declined the past two years to the point that he's just not very good. His OPS now hovers just above .700, and he's never been particularly good at getting on-base. He doesn't strike out much, and is fairly efficient stealing bases, but unless you're convinced his bat could return to where it was when he left Cleveland, as opposed to where it is now, I would rather focus on finding a way to fix the infield defense first. His value, or lack of, is magnified when you figure that he is making roughly $5M/year as noted.

As is, he has more power than Gwynn, but Gwynn would probably get on base at a better clip. The D' would be a wash. I'm not opposed to dealing for Crisp, but I would need to be convinced that he would improve upon leaving Boston. Is his skill set not the greatest match for Fenway and the Green Monster?

I think his defense this year was kind of flukey. At least using the "advanced metrics", this is the first time in his career he has had an above average season - and he was way above average. I know when he got traded to Boston there were a lot of analysts and stuff that didn't think he could play CF.

I'd rather stick one of Hart or Gross in CF than Crisp, because Crisp really has problems hitting.

He improved compared to last season just looking at basic batting stats, but it was a very marinal improvement. When he went to BOS originally I'm thinking breakout guy whos gonna hit .300/15HR/30SB but he dissapointed big time. I really don't think he'd bring it back and breakout or return to his Cleveland numbers. I could be wrong, but.. I'd honestly rather take a chance with Gwynn, more so because of the Hype around him has gotten me to like him more, but at the same time, if Gwynns name was Smith the hype would be gone and he'd return to what i thought of him 2 years ago as being a 4th/5th OF at best not being able to hit well enough. Or he could be a Poor Mans Crisp. Manly without the power but adding a hint of speed, wash with defense as pointed out.
