Curse the Cubs Thread

Really? I think it's hilarious and I think any Cub fan with a sense of humor would think it was funny as well. The fans of either of these teams has, in reality, no business making fun of the other. Together, we symbolize futility.

I'm a Cubs fan and I find this thread quite hilarious...in that sad "oh god I wish I wasn't a Cubs fan" kind of way.

I must say, I don't understand the thinking that the Cubs are consistent chokers. We normally suck too bad to even be in a position to choke. Outside of 69, 71 (I think it was that year), 03, and 04, I can't think of any other years where we've done anything remotely close to choking.

But keep it up, the pics are entertaining.

Welcome to the board!!

First off, thanks for having a sense of humor(that's all this thread really is, a giant joke after all). The reason for the "chokers" thing, is it seems whenever the Cubs climb out of the cellar and do well, they tend to choke. It's not necessary how often they "choke", it's the magnitude of how it happens. Having a team come back after being up 3-0 in a 7 game series, being 5 outs away from the WS, losing a 9.5 game lead in Late August, ect. The years that come to mind for me are 69, 84, 03.

Thanks for the welcome. I was a bit worried when I realized that my first words in my first post here were "I'm a Cubs fan."

And I understand that, (Alhough, to be fair, it was a 3 games to 1 lead in the 2003 NLCS. Dusty thought it'd be a good idea to pitch Mark Guthrie in extra innings of game one. It wasn't.) it just seems to me that teams like the Braves, who put out great teams every year and still manage to exit early in the playoffs, or even the Yankees deserve more heat for being chronic chokers.

Though I can't deny that every year that the Cubs have been good always ends in a crushing heartbreak for me. I'm still sore about 2003.

When i said a 3-0 lead, i ment in the 84 series(altho i should have said a 2-0 lead in a best of 5 series). The 2003 reference was the 5 outs away.

I agree with your assessment of the Braves and Yankees being chokers in the playoffs, Atlanta especially.

I've always liked the Braves so I know what you're talking about. As for the Yanks, it's only been since 2001. I feel like I did my part as I was at game 7 of the series in Phoenix and as Rivera warmed up for the bottom of the 9th, I got on my hands and knees and actually prayed/hexed the Yanks to lose. And they've done jack squat since.

Welcome to the boards!

Wisconsinfan, where'd you overhear that great snippet you use for your sig?

That is from the episode of Brewers Str8up where the fellas filmed their Young and the Restless scene. I'm geeky enough to have watched that 2 1/2 times. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I'm a Cubs fan as well, and this thread is what kept me browsing here and eventually joining. The t-shirt with the list of injuries where Wood's falling out of a hot tub is one of the most awesome pictures I have ever seen. For fits and giggles, I thought I'd contribute a little something...

Good thing the Cubs don't have Richard Marx on the team this year.

I'm sorry to say that I have lost a lot of respect for Bob Uecker after watching this clip.

Not to mention Dennis Eckersley, Rickey Henderson, Greg Maddux, and Tony LaRussa.

All copies of this music video should be destroyed for the sake of humanity.

Welcome, (reasonable) Cubs fans. Being one of the very few Brewerfan apologists for the Cubs and their fans, I wouldn't mind Melvin and Hendry's toast this week that the Brewers and Cubs both make the playoffs coming true; I just hope that if it does, it's the Brew Crew that takes the division.

May as well add something. And why not add the man who messed it all up in 03 (other than Dusty)

We really need to bring this thread back to life. Tonight's start by Zambrano is going to be huge. If he implodes tonight that could really hurt the Cubs. If he pitches great in Wrigley tonight after last nights dramatic win, we could be in big trouble.it Common Cubs, don't forget your past.

I couldn't believe we didn't have a picture of this man yet. He's been referenced in several posts, and is the avatar of one of our frequent posters (can't remember right now).

This thread reminds me of how when the Yankees were getting scared of Boston coming back from being 0-3 in the 2004 ALCS you saw more and more of the CURSE signs out in the stands.

This thread is bad mojo.

Agreed, this thread was a complete failure the first time and I'm not happy to see it on the front page again.

Of course, I'm not helping by bumping it here.
