Jason Botts

I'm sick of Texas never giving Jason Botts a chance, so I want Doug Melvin to give Texas GM Jon Daniels a call and say the Brewers will give them a proven MLB pitcher for Botts.

While Jason is certainly no Gold Glover, this guy is Adam Dunn Lite, with nice plate discipline and a good power stroke. He's also a switch hitter that can play 1b. Make it happen, Doug!

Ooo, good call! Benoit+Botts for Gwynn+something smallish. We know they like Gwynn and would give up a quality reliever for him, so let's get Botts out of there as well. He hits great verse both hands too, as a switch hitter.

"this guy is Adam Dunn lite"

You mean "lite" as in "lite hitting"? He's got the Dunn strikeout thing down (90 in 244 Major league AB's), but has just 3 HR and "slugs" .336 which is more Craig Counsell than it is Adam Dunn.

His so-called plate discipline is probably more of a function of his inability to put balls in play (thereby getting deep in counts) than it is having a good eye at the plate.

At best, he's Joe Borchard.

Yes, he's been bad in limited time in the bigs.

But his .320 / .436 / .545 / .981 AAA line looks tasty to anyone. He's a doubles machine in the minors. There's plenty of guys who've never been able to translate their talent to the bigs, but its too early to completely give up on him. I don't think anyone was asking for him to be put in a starting role, but as a 4th/5th guy next year he has a lot of upside.

"his...AAA line looks tasty to anyone."

So did Lyle Mouton's only tastier.

"too early to give up on him"

But at 27, not too early to have plenty of doubts.

I said "there are plenty of guys who've never translated their talent to the bigs". And 27 is not that old anymore. Over the last two years, we've had two comparable - Gross (26) and Dillon (31). Not all-stars, but I'm not saying Botts will be. Podsednik's (27) another.

Our opinions aren't that far apart, its just our outlook. We both see him as far of a sure thing, but I cite the example of why he may work, and you cite the failures. Nothing wrong with that, just pointing out that our opinions are the same.
