Mitchell steroid probe; Latest - Clemens headed to Court; Congress

jaybird2001wi

I'm interested in what the report is going to say and everything, but quite frankly, regardless of the names on the list, my opinion of anyone isn't going to change. I've always realized that a large portion of players in the league used PED's at some point or another. It's really not that shocking at all. When you're playing a game and you know that most of your peers are using something that is giving them an advantage over you, meaning among other things that whatever they are using is going to get them more fame, more money, etc., the odds are against you being able to turn down the same help that they are receiving.

Does it suck that this had to happen? Yes, of course it would be perfect had no one in the game ever used PED's, but it's just the way it goes and quite frankly I don't see the point of this report. To me this isn't a proactive way to go about things. Great, we get a list of names of people who used PED's in the past, I don't care. Instead, do something more about stopping it now, beef up testing even more, whatever it takes. I just really don't see what this is going to solve.

These few lines from the ESPN article have me more interested in the release than I was before:

-----------------------

The source said McNamee told investigators he supplied Clemens with steroids while Clemens was witih the Yankees, and prior to Clemens joining the team.

Also, The Bergen (N.J.) Record, citing a baseball industry official, says "several" prominent Yankees will be named in the Mitchell report. The paper said the source spoke to a third party who had seen the final report.

"It's going to be a rough day in the Bronx," the paper quoted the source as saying.

-----------------------

I'm calling it. The names will include Jeter, A-Rod, Rivera, Soriano, and in the biggest shock of all: David Wells.

You can mix steroids and beer?!

did you see [Frank Thomas's] press conference after his 500th homer? Maybe you should look at what he has said in the past, he speaks strongly against steroids, and though he is huge, he has said that he has done it the right way.

Like this guy?

Great point, jlau. It temporarily placates the horde.

Only if you have the Steroids as a side dish, usually they come with Triple Bacon Cheeseburgers.

Mota already served his suspension for the PED test he failed at the start of the 2007 season - that's already been dealt with.

It will be interesting to see how MLB uses this report, and how all the players listed are mentioned. There will be quite a few names of players listed who have already served a suspension or are waiting for next season to start so they can start their imposed suspension.

I thought Gagne was going to be mentioned, the timing of his injuries, and the rapid rise he made from a failed starter to the best closer in baseball was a little too fishy.

Why do I get the feeling that baseball purists will be disappointed in this list, not because it is necessary bad for the game, but because it won't release as many names as once thought. I also think it will be dominated by Yankee and Mets players with little names from Midwest and West coast teams.

I imagine some players may breathe a sigh of relief that their names were not on the list. This could be all smoke and mirrors in my mind.

I honestly think Frank Thomas is naturally big. He was once a tight end at Auburn, playing alongside Bo Jackson I believe.

The one name that is never mentioned is Rickey Henderson. He may have been in good shape, but with him playing well into his 40's, I have always wondered if he got "some help."

Clemens, Pettite, Roberts, Gibbons, and Tejada were all players who Grimsley told the Feds were steroid users years ago. Unless, Mitchell and Co., has obtained further evidence supporting Grimsley's claim this is old news.

Except for the possibility this could be turned into actionable evidence now by MLB in terms of suspensions.

I'm kind of worried that Selig will go berserk and start handing down 50 and 100 game suspensions.

He's going to be in one heck of a bind, in terms of dealing with the guys who haven't already been nabbed and suspended (like Mota). Do you suspend no one? Or everyone? And for how long? If he does it on a case-by-case basis, he's going to be accused of favoritism.

And I can't even begin to imagine how intransigent the players' union is going to be .....

completely different, Thomas has said he would take tests, and he said that he did it the right way with out anyone asking him that question, instead of Palmeiro being forced to answer the question, no one asked Frank, he said that he was clean anyway.

I don't know if you really can believe anyone at this point. Players that have been caught still deny that they ever took something wrong. Then there are players that say they would never do something like steroids only to be caught. Did big Frank take PEDs? who really knows? Just because he said he didn't doesn't really mean anything to me.

That same list is being posted on the CNBC/MSNBC websites.
"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."
