MS Word Help

ccbrew

I'm creating a bulleted list that looks somewhat like an outline. Something like this:

  • Item 1
    • [li]Subheading 1
  • Subheading 2
    • [li]Note 1

[/li]

[/li] [*]Item 2 [*]

  • [li]Subheading 1

    • [li]Note 1

[/li] [*]Subheading 2

[/li] [*]Item 3

...etc. I used to be able to create these with ease, just like you can while making a bulleted list on this message board. Hitting Tab indents the line to the next level, while Shift+Tab would bring it back a level.

One day (that day being yesterday), this method stopped working for me out of the blue. Currently, hitting Tab indents the line but the bullet point does not indent with it. It looks something like this:

  • Item 1
  • .........Subheading 1
  • .........Subheading 2
  • .................Note 1
  • Item 2
  • .........Subheading 1
  • .................Note 1
  • .........Subheading 2
  • Item 3

(Pretend the dots don't exist, and is instead a blank space). This is incredibly annoying. I now must hit Shift-Alt-Right Arrow to indent and Shift+Alt+Left Arrow to bring it back. I haven't changed any of the keyboard shortcuts and to my knowledge, everything is still set to default settings.

I hope that was an adequate description of my problem..I consider myself adept at all of the MS Office products so not being able to solve this myself is discouraging. However, this is what you guys are here for..thanks in advance for the help.

Edit: Formatting..how ironic.

Try right-clicking on one of the bullet points and select "bullets and numbering".

Check the "Outline Numbered" tab....

is one of these selected or is it on "none"? If it's on none, that's probably the problem as it's not setup to auto-format the bullets in any sort of format. Select one of the other ones to your liking and try it.

Thanks for the response, brwrsfan. I figured it out. Looks like I had inadvertently turned off one of the AutoCorrect features ("Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces") at some point. Issue resolved and my confidence in simple word processing tasks is restored..
