The three remaining Marlins fans must be going nuts

Well, whether or not you like the "mentality", what are their options? My guess is that, revenue sharing or no revenue sharing, their finances are not looking that great right now and trading away the contracts of Willis and/or Cabrera is a necessity.

Sexson is/was not as talented as Cabrera. It's not even close.

Sheets is probably as talented as Willis.

AS, here was your original question: Did the 2002 brewers have anyone on the roster that was remotely as talented as either of those two guys?

Not "exactly" or "comparably," but remotely. As noted, Sheets was/is better than Willis, while Sexson wasn't as good as Cabrera. I'd say mine was a pretty fair answer to the question you posed. I also don't understand why it's 'not even close' between Sexson of 2002 & Cabrera of 2007. I think the two are closer than you're giving Richie credit.

Yeah, I guess I acknowledged you were correct about Sheets, although Sheeter's only put together one really good year.

However Sexson is not remotely as talented as Cabrera, IMO. Sexson was 27 in 2002. Cabrera is what 24 and he's putting up much better numbers than Sexson ever did.

While I agree there's no doubt Cabrera is the more talented player, what I disagree with is saying that 'it's not even close.' Sure, Cabrera has been much better, but we're not talking about comparing him to Graffanino or Jeff Cirillo. I think Sexson is closer to Cabrera than you're crediting him, but I won't begrudge your opinion, as it's clear that Cabrera is a special, special hitter, while Richie was (only) able to reach an elite level of power during his peak (age) seasons.

Posts in this thread point out legitimate baseball reasons for the Marlins possibly wanting to deal Willis and Cabrera. But the fact that Marlins tore down two World Series teams before the players even had a chance to get their rings would suggest that it'd be natural, and even legitimate, to raise the red flag first and do the logical breaking down second.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'm on the side that Braun can improve. He should get at least another year -- unless we bring in a stud 3B, but I'll worry about that when/if it happens.

One point I'd like to bring up is what do you think Florida could get for these two? Willis hasn't pitched well and Cabrera is just getting big -- not good at 3B. I also read on espn.com over the summer an article about Cabrera and his weight. They noted in the article that he really enjoys the Miami night life -- which could be another concern.

Do you think most teams will offer low? Or is Florida really going to get some stud prospects for either of them?

Given Willis' past season, this would be the WORST time for Florida to sell. They won't get a whole lot in return for him... they're better off seeing if he bounces back in '08 and deadline-dealing him.

Cabrera, however, might be a different story depending on how many teams they can get into a bidding war. Most teams know that Florida can't realistically "afford" him so they'll initially be offering low. Florida's hands with him, depending on how arby turns out, are pretty much tied. $11M is a lot - too much - for that organization.

End,

Where are you finding the Marlins' profit margins?

The Marlins payroll in 2006 was $14 million below what they received in revenue sharing. 2007 has yet to be fully finalized, but they hardly increased payroll while revenue sharing was set to go up again. I'm searching for the link on revenue sharing, as soon as I find it again I'll post it.

Just move them to Portland or New Jersey or Charlotte or somewhere.

Meanwhile cities like Indy and Portland have fans and no team.

I know this got discussed in another thread (Marlins lack of fans), but any time I see two separate, random references to my new city being a top logical candidate for an MLB team, I get all happy & crazy! Btw, NJ = Yankees.

I'd hope that you would still be a Brewer fan. If it wasn't for you FTJ who'd keep my Yost love in check?

First and foremost, forever and always, Buc. Don't you ever worry! As for the second part, something tells me you'd not be short on candidates. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
