Schuerholz steps down as GM to become team president

Wow, GMs are dropping like flies this offseason. If Schuerholz is stepping down, it definitely comes as a surprise, since I don't even remember reading rumors about him possibly calling it quits. Definitely the end of an era in Atlanta if this is true.

As long as he doesnt come to St. Louis, I wish him well wherever he goes. He arguably built the greatest sports "dynasty" ever. That record of consecutive division champs will never come close to being matched

I would think he would be stepping down to retire, not go somewhere else. Was the new guy being targeted for any of the openings?

 

I would think this is like what Badgers football did. Alvarez was great and probably could have easily coached another couple years, but they had Bielema. So instead of letting another team promote Bielema, they just promoted him and kept Alvarez on staff.
