That would be a complete shock. I wonder if he is retiring or if he was fired. I sure hope he doesnt wind up in St Louis.

Wow, GMs are dropping like flies this offseason. If Schuerholz is stepping down, it definitely comes as a surprise, since I don't even remember reading rumors about him possibly calling it quits. Definitely the end of an era in Atlanta if this is true.

It says that he is expected to resign, but in the article it says he is handing the reins over. Weird. Maybe he is taking a different role in the organization, which I thought was what the Braves were planning.

As long as he doesnt come to St. Louis, I wish him well wherever he goes. He arguably built the greatest sports "dynasty" ever. That record of consecutive division champs will never come close to being matched

I would think he would be stepping down to retire, not go somewhere else. Was the new guy being targeted for any of the openings?

 

I would think this is like what Badgers football did. Alvarez was great and probably could have easily coached another couple years, but they had Bielema. So instead of letting another team promote Bielema, they just promoted him and kept Alvarez on staff.

Assistant GM Frank Wren and scouting director Roy Clark are both pretty respected in baseball circles, IIRC.

 

Schuerholz is one of the few guys I would trade Doug Melvin for.
