Once More, No October

HOF4canrake

ONCE MORE, NO OCTOBER (sung to the melody of Champagne Supernova by Oasis)

NED SAID RELAX WE'RE STILL IN FIRST

AND DON'T FORGET THE CUBS ARE CURSED.

PLEASE STOP BOOING TURNBOW HIS FEELINGS ARE HURT.

HAS ANYONE SEEN BILLY HALL,

PRINCE AND BRAUN CAN'T DO IT ALL.

JENKINS WHIFFED AGAIN - SLIDER IN THE DIRT.

SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME STARING AT A BLANK SCREEN

WOND'RING HOW WE BLEW ANOTHER 3-RUN LEAD.

AND SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME HEAD IN HANDS ABOUT TO CRY,

'CAUSE BEN SHEETS HAS A BLISTER, ESTRADA THROWS LIKE HIS SISTER AND NED IS HIGH…

WAKE UP NED YOST AND ASK HIM WHY

MATT WISE IS IN WHEN THE GAME IS TIED.

HE HASN'T EARNED AN OUT SINCE LATE JULY.

THE SEASON'S QUICKLY GETTING OLD

PLAY TO WIN, THAT'S WHAT WE WERE TOLD.

SO WHERE IS COCO, NED, YOU MUST BE HIGH…

SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME

YELLING FROM BEHIND THE PLATE

CAPPY WILL YOU WIN AGAIN BEFORE '08?

AND SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME

CAUGHT UP IN SOME CUBS HATE

'CAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS

THEY'RE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS.

'CAUSE OUR PRECIOUS BREWERS

PLAYED .350 BALL FOR 2 MONTHS THIS SUMMER.

AND YOU AND I, WE LIVED AND DIED

ONE PITCH AT A TIME, WE DON'T KNOW WHY

WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY-I-I.

(guitar solo)

HOW MANY LOSSES WAS NED WORTH?

THREE OR FOUR AND A PLAYOFF BERTH.

JUST A COUPLE WINS WOULD'VE MEANT A TIE.

BASES LOADED, TOP OF EIGHT.

STILL NO COCO, YOU'RE WAY TOO LATE

LEAVING TURNBOW IN, NED MUST BE HIGH.

SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME

SCOREBOARD WATCHING CUBS GAMES.

WITH SOUP WINLESS AGAIN, THAT'S 12 STRAIGHT

AND SOME DAYS YOU COULD FIND ME

GAZING UP INTO THE SKY

ROBIN AND PAUL WE NEED YOU,

ROBIN AND PAUL WE NEED YOU

'CAUSE WE CAN'T BELIEVE

WE'LL BE WATCHING PLAYOFF GAMES FROM OUR SOFAS.

BUT YOU AND I, WE WILL SURVIVE

WE KNOW 08's THE YEAR…AND THAT'S NO LIE.

OR AM I HIGH.

(guitar, birds chirping)

AT LEAST THE CUBS DIDN'T SHOW UP.

HAD THEY WON, WE'D ALL THROW UP.

NEXT YEAR, NED, PLEASE STOP GETTING HIGH

PLEASE STOP GETTING HIGH (repeats 9 times, fades)

Ok HOF4, you inspired me to finish this tonight. I only had a few lines that worked before tonight. I don't think it's as good as yours, but I figured I'd share it with the Brewerfan nation.

I had a few lines that worked really well, but some are kind of a stretch. Some lyrics seem like odd word choice, but if you lok at the real lyrics it may make more sense why I cose wht I did. Anyone want to make any suggestions - go right ahead. It's fun! I want to thank you HOF4 for the nice way to spend my boring Wednesday night!

Division Pennant

(Sung to the melody of American Pie, by Don McLean)

A long, long time ago

I can still remember how those Brewers used to make me smile

And I knew that this was the chance

For them to make Milwaukee dance

And maybe they'd talk about'm for a while.

But late summer made me shiver

Sheets is hurt - this time a sliver

No one knows where Hall's been

Our bullpen starts to run thin

I can't remember if I cried

When I saw'm cheering on the north side

But something hurt me deep inside

The day the season died

{Refrain}

So, bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

Verse 2

Did your heart start to bleed

Every time they blew a three-run lead

And the Cubs started to not blow.

Can you believe that Billy Hall

swung and missed at every stinkin' ball

And did you watch Estrada run real slow

Well, I know Turnbow pitches the eighth

but after two walks we all lose the faith

We'd scream "Put in Coco!"

But Yost would never show

Braun was a gloveless kid down in Nashville

that we brought up and his bat started to kill

But it wasn't enough to heat the chill

The day the season died

We started singin'

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

Verse 3

Now for many years we've been very bad

And the fans are getting fairly mad

But that's not how it used to be.

We had a good team back in '82

with Molly, Yount and Gantner too

in a city that was filled with baseball glee!

But then Paulie was run out of town

and Selig brought our good team down

We barely ever won

It wasn't any fun

And while Ueker read the bad box scores

Miller Park opened up it's brand new doors

but by seasons end there were no fan roars

The day the season died

We were singin'

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

Verse 4

A month and a half of great baseball

they looked like they'd never fall -

Five games up and rising fast

Our pitching was really hot

Homeruns flew into the parking lot

With Sheeter not on the sidelines in a cast

Now our young stars began to really bloom

but it happened just a bit too soon

We all got up to dance

Oh but we never got the chance

'Cause the players went into a drought

Capuano could not get an out

then the fans began to doubt

The day the season died

We started singing

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

Verse 5

Oh, we were so close, this was the year

the fans all came to drink and cheer

With no thought that the Cubs would win

So come on, Ned, be smart, don't be wrong -

Damn he left Wise in too long

can you imagine what would have been?

Oh, and as I watch them start to choke

I prayed that it was just a joke

But it was very real

I doubt I ever heal.

Even though Hart wore his glasses at night

The Crew lost its playoff fight

I saw Big Z laughing with delight

The day the season died

He was singing

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

Verse 6

I met a fan who sang the blues

And I asked him for some happy news

But he just smiled and turned away.

I went down to the Fan Zone store

Where I'd felt the magic months before,

But the man there said the magic blew away.

The parking lots were full of fans

who now had no big playoff plans

But not a brat was eaten

they hoped the Cubs were beaten.

The players all packed up their gear;

the concession stands put away the beer

They all said "Next years the year!"

The day the season died

And they were singin'

{Refrain}

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

Ned Yost can not be the right guy.

We were singin'

Bye-bye, division pennant good-bye

Our playoff chances disappeared

in a blink of an eye

We watched the Cubs close in - and then pass us right by

Singin' Ned Yost can not be the right guy

To the melody of Gin & Juice

With so much drama in the Milwaukee

Its kinda hard bein Ned Yost num-er-al 3

But I, somehow, some way

Keep comin up with stupid ass moves like every single day

May I, kick a little something for you fans (yeah)

And, lose a lot games as (yeah!) I breeze, through

Two on the bases and Corey's still buntin?

Hope Counsell drives them home?

I got Turnbow in the bullpen throwing real hard

And, he aint leavin til six runs are scored (six runs are scored)

So what you wanna do, Nick?

I got a dugout full of 'Squitos and my coaches do too

So turn off the lights and close the roof

But (but what) we act all aloof, yeah!

So we gonna get smoked to this

Losses up, wins down, while you dumb Brewer fans bounce to this

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

Now, that, Spurlings in from the pen

Phillies got the bases loaded, but CoCo's not in

Now Spurling gets hit, you couldn't have known

The Cubs just scored four and I benched Ryan Braun

Everything is fine when you listenin to the N-E-D

I got the questionable strategy confusing Milwaukee

Who listens, to the words that I speak

"Math is on our side, and Aquino's D is peaked"

And get to plunkin to this Card named Pujols

He used to be the MVP in St. Louis

Eighty wins, when I tell that Mark A.

Watch out for these C-u-bs, cause we gave it away

At ease, as I mob with the Dale Sveum, feel the breeze

Ben Sheets, Im just

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

(Flute Solo)

Later on that week

My homey Doug Melvin came through with a guy named Scott Linebrink

And a fat Ray King, add some playoff pressure that made me choke

Sheets, this aint no joke

I had a back up start right field and sat Bill Hall down

Meaningful Games in September, I assed up now

But Albert Pujols, Im still poppin

McClung got a pitch in on his pocket

To please me, the Brewers are not on top

A righty faces Mench, Not gettin Jenks off the bench

Dont get upset fans, thats just how it goes

I dont love you though, Im out the do

And Ill be

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

Walking to the mound, getting Tbow, watch him get raked, and lose

Eight back [with my mind on Don Money and Don Money on my mind]

Team Canada - i was thinking about that - but I want some of the smart smart people in BF.net to tweak and change some of the lines. I am a creative guy, but I know there are many more creative people on this site. I want to make sure it's perfect - then I'm going to find a way to record it.

I'd really like to change the line "Ned Yost can not be the right guy." because I really am not a Ned Yost basher - but it kind of rolled off my tounge. Any suggestions would be welcome.

HOF4 - I just listened to Oasis while reading your lyrics - I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh because you did a perfect job - or cry because it brought so many painful memories.
