Miller and Coors to merge

"Ugh, I hate Coors. Now two gigantic Milwaukee companies have ties to racist extremists. Oh well, what are you going to do? "

What's the other one?

I don't know if the Coors foundation is racist. Now homophobic to the nth degree, yes. And I assume he means the Bradley Foundation which really no longer has direct ties to any business. And they provided the money for The Bell Curve.

edit: the shortened version of "Richard" is bad? I'm going to assume its ok when referring to a person's name.

Brewerfan staff don't consider it to be "bad" (when used as you intended), but Yuku filters it automatically because of that other potential use.

1992casey has his finger more on the pulse of this issue than I do, but a forthcoming tweak of the software is supposed to give individual forums more control over language filters. We are all looking forward to that tweak.

I guess I don't follow the racist/homophobic sentiment. Maybe I'd need to live in Milwaukee to be up on this stuff.

If the flavour of Miller beer got too strong, I'd water it down with some Coors. Scary to think they could be doing this now. Their new company slogan could be "Like Perrier, with just a hint of beer."

I have a buddy in a quite high level position with Coors (he is a Wisconsin native I might add). I generally see him once a year around the end of June at a group get-together. Now most of us in the group are Miller product drinkers and it was always kind of funny that he was the only one ordering Coors. Now he can blend in with the rest of us without being disloyal. I figure he's had great access to tickets and/or suites at Coors Field but I never had the occasion to be in Denver since he's been with Coors so I never really asked him directly about it.

Now I think I'll mention how much my family and I love Miller Park and see what he says.

Actually, it's the Coors side that has the checkered history. Back in 1984, former company chairman William Coors told a largely African-American audience that "one of the best things (slave traders) did for you is to drag your ancestors over here in chains."

As far as market share, and the merger not being approved, my understanding is that the new Miller/Coors company would have about a 29% market share, where Anheuser-Busch has an approximately 48% market share...so they would still be a distant #2.

I am mostly a high life guy but my grandma is a Coors girl. Perhaps now we will get along better at family gatherings.

I see that Coors owns Molson too. I do have to admit that Molson Ice is just about the greatest thing ever. The version I had once in Canada was like moonshine and still tasted like awesomeness.

As Hawing alluded to, you can't have it filtered out for the inappropriate label, but not for the person's name. You could always just cheat the filter if you need to use the name, such as _Dick Cheney or D.ick Cheney

I hate coors.. and it's stupid frost lining.
Plus now the mountains on the bottle turn blue when it's cold! Which would really come in handy if you have extensive nerve damage to your hands, limiting your ability to feel temperatures.

Doesn't Coors also make Keystone Light? Isn't that their version of say, Milwaukee's Best Light? Keystone light is the worst beer ever, in a am-I-drinking-bottled-water kind of way, not a Stroh's-esque who-urinated-in-my-beer kind of way.

And if John Elway shows up in a Miller commercial, I am just going to lose it.

To borrow an awesome phrase from thebruce, that - ^ - is awesomeness. Although I do have to say that the exchange of -

"See, it's blue - like your eyes!"

[door slams] "My eyes are green!"

gets me every time.

The thing I dont get about the mountains turning blue when its cold is that I thought Coors was always supposed to be kept cold since it isn't pasturised. So shouldn't the mountains always be blue? Am I wrong about this?

Furthermore, the part in their commercials saying something along the lines of its beer being "brewed in the Rockies so it's frost brewed cold" is puzzling considering that some of their products are brewed in Shenandoah, VA..elevation of 988 ft.

I believe they cold filter it, as Coors ceramic company invented the ceramic filters used in the process. Back in the days of the smokey and the bandit movie and Coors wasnt available everywhere, I believe that was somewhat the case.

That's one thing about Coors, too. I remember my dad saying that years ago, Coors wasn't available hardly anywhere, at least in Wisconsin. So if you walked into a bar and they had it, it was kind of a special thing. Now that it's everywhere, it's not really any better than Miller Lite or similar beers.
