How emotional are you when it comes to sports?

jason21nl

I for one am extremely emotional. When the Crew loses, I get mad, think about the game for about 10-15 min. then I'm pretty much over it. Unless It's a game that was blown, or against the Cubs. When the Packers lose (like they just did) I'm furious. I will not be able to sleep tonight and I have a to replace a TV remote because I threw it against the ground. I'll yell at the TV loud enough to where my whole apartment probably can hear. I get so emotionally involved in the game that my girlfriend could have a conversation with me and I won't hear one word she is saying. Is this healthy? probably not, but I don't care. Its who I am, Its how I'm wired. I can't be the only one like this can I?

I get way over-emotional about sports. I'm usually a pretty mild-mannered guy, but when the Brewers, Packers or Wild screw up, I've been known to unleash verbal tirades that would make most people blush. My go-to move is throwing my hat at the television. The worst thing that ever happened was when the Packers gave up the 4th and 26th play to the Eagles 4 years ago, I attempted to throw a chair through the wall. That's actually the only time I've had to separate myself from a situation. I think if the Brewers ever got to the playoffs and a similar blowup happened, things might not go well for objects surrounding me again.

But like I said... I'm pretty mild mannered otherwise.

I'm pissed and won't want to talk or even hear anything about football for a week, but tonight I looked at the thread just down from this one and remembered how unimportant tonights game is in the grand scheme of things.

Still pissed though.

I was pretty ticked off tonight. When each game has so much meaning, it's a lot harder to swallow letting one get away like this. Then again, I was a lot more upset with the Coco blown save in Texas. However, I'm a lot more serious about baseball. A Packers loss probably compares to the Crew getting swept.

Baseball not as much. The Packers, big time. Can't afford to lose like we did tonight with just 16 game seasons. I'm pissed right now, I'll be depressed all week and get mad everytime I think about it. I won't get over this until we hopefully clinch a playoff spot.

the 4th and 26 play, i threw my then girlfriends mirrored coffee table about 5 ft. I grabbed all my autographed packers footballs and threw them about 60 yds into a field. I was embarrassingly out of control. We broke up 2 weeks later, my anger scared her too much. I took some anger management classes, they helped just enough for me not to lose complete control like that. very embarrassing.

I hear ya...I've done some pretty stupid stuff when angry...I will say I never have and never will actually hurt anyone...My frustration is directed at inanimate objects. That 4th and 26 play? After the game was over...I wasn't angry, I was sad...It was actually a worse feelng than anger.

I have, thankfully, forgotten what I did after the 4th and 26 game. I have very little memory of it. I think that's a good thing.

As for emotional ties to sports, I think it is inherent in many people throughout the world. We see these teams as an off-shoot of our family and when bad things happen to your family you get over-emotional at times. I think it's a good thing because it shows that you really care.

I've never gotten angry to the point of screaming, but I still think I'm pretty emotional. I burst into tears when my team is eliminated from the playoffs or a favorite player retires, which is then followed by me hiding in my room for the next day. When my team first went to the postseason, and a couple years after, I was in middle school, and I was so nervous I couldn't eat. My mother thought there was something seriously wrong with me, nevermind she couldn't grasp for years how a girl could be such a big baseball fan. Now I eat, but baseball still mentally consumes me in October to the point that it could affect my work.

Like many of you have already mentioned football gets to me more as well. I've never lost control or anything but a big football loss bothers me for a long time. I'm a Buffalo Bills fan so football hasn't been enjoyable for a quite a while.

The worst I've ever felt after a game was the Music City Miracle. I was running laps around my house after Christie hit the go ahead field goal. I come back to watch the end and probably cried for the next two weeks straight.

When Wisconsin lost to Ohio State in basketball at the end of the regular season, I through my T.V. remote against the wall, and I don't remember talking to anyone the rest of the day. I don't know why, but I always seem to get into Wisconsin basketball the most out of any sport, so needless to say I was depressed for a while after their 2nd Round loss to UNLV.

P.S. My brother (Stevo on here) cried when the Knicks lost in the playoffs like 10 years ago when he was 12 or something.

Valuable infornation.

Jokes aside, I've gotten a lot better the last few years about putting this stuff in perspective and not letting it get hold or define me, which has proved helpful very recently.

I still think that was a foward pass. And how can you function after losing four straight Super Bowls? I don't care how long its been...

I used to get really emotional, throw things, scream, pout, take the phone off the hook, say things about never cheering for these losers again.

I'd even get all po'd playing Madden or hockey, throw the controller, kick the game console so it froze- then I'd get even more mad.

Now I just shake my head and shrug my shoulders usually (maybe a few 360 f-bombs). I guess I'm getting mellow in my old age- plus having 3 daughters and a wife there's not enough emotion leftover for me in the house.

Being a Dolphins fan though I sure could relate to Hootie talking about how the Dolphins make him cry. Curse you Dan Marino, and David Woodley for that matter.

Me too. I tend to expect the worst (Brewer Fan-Syndrome), but I tend to lose it when my team gives the game away. I can take the beat down, and if the other team makes plays, hard to get to pissed. But, like Sunday night's Packer game when they just handed the fracken thing away, or the 4th and 26th...But when GB lost to Denver is the Super Bowl, I was sad but not so angry because they were out played.

That said, baseball is a bit harder (for me) to seperate when the other team is better V the 'Crew blowing it themselves.

I don't normally swear except when I watched sporting events on TV. I get really upset during the game and then sort of laugh at myself for getting upset afterwards. It used to stick with me a lot longer when I was younger but now that I'm in my 30's I realize that in the grand scheme of things, there's really no reason to get upset (unless I have money on the line or something)......doesn't stop me from dropping 15 F bombs in a row after Woodson fumbled that punt though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm probably as far to the other end of the spectrum as you can get. I never really get emotional about anything, good or bad. I guess I'm more of the staunchly objective type.

I am exactly the same -- although I would never claim to be "staunchly objective" rather "dead on the inside".

60 yards? Whoa! -- That's a pretty awesome toss, even if you are hulked up.

So, 4th and 26 was a bad thing?http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif I rather enjoyed it.

I get worked up watching the Brewers, but when it's over, I try to let it go.

I get fired up during Eagles games, but usually calm down right after the game.

For some reason, I don't get worked up over the Badgers at all.

No team has caused any physical damage or lack of sleep though.

I tend to be a nut case watching Michigan or the Chargers. I live in a house with a married couple and two young children that probably will end up having among the best cursing skills ever. I think I cheer kinda in a normal way watching basketball, hockey, baseball, whatever, but when it comes to football, I'm a different animal. I don't throw things or get violent, but I do test my vocal chords and see what they are made of. I'm not proud of it, but I do accept it, and I think others that know me have as well.

maybe its just me, but the older i get, the less high i get after wins and low i get after losses. That being said, tough losses (it seems like there were 15 this season for the crew , plus last night packer game still gets to me. Id never start throwing things though, binge drink or whatever to celebrate wins or deal with losses.

Mine, too. Then I unleash the verbal onslaught of f-bombs, usually followed by "Yost".

I don't do anything that damages property, though. I've mellowed quite a bit at the ripe old age of 23, especially when it comes to baseball. I just don't get worked up as much anymore, I probably got much more angry after a loss in, say, 2004 than I did this year when the team was actually good. It's really not worth it to get that worked up about one game out of 162, I just learned to take it in stride.
