Six dead in Crandon shooting

gypcasino
The last thing law enforcement wanted was for Peterson to die. I think the waiting can be attributed to the authorities trying to come to a peaceful resolution and not a deadly standoff.
I agree with that. The shots from the sniper were on the arm, hardly the way to execute someone if that was there intention.

Is the .40 cal a powerful gun

The caliber refers to the size of the bullet/barrel.

A .40 caliber bullet is about 10mm, whereas a .22 caliber is about 5.5 mm.

The "power" is probably more a function of the powder and material used in the bullet.

Certainly a .40 caliber gun can generate a lot of damage.

Thanks FTJ, ok I am just confused on this whole situation because I am still just not understanding how he shot himself twice under the chin area and then in his head. If this gun generates a lot of damage how did he not kill himself with the first 2 shots, mortally wound, or knock himself out cold?

By Size I mean the diameter of the bullet, as opposed to the length, basically the caliber tells you what size of metal can fit through the barrel.

I am not sure how a person could shoot themselves 2 times under the chin, unless they had the gun pointed at an angle where the bullet exited the chin or cheek.

Why is Van Hollen not answering media questions anymore? I heard he asked the residents of Crandon not to talk to the media? That seems really odd.

It's more than odd it's also ridiculous. The media is supposed to be able to do their jobs as watchdogs of all governmental matters.

What's ridiculous is not letting the poor people of this devastated small community put this horrific tragedy behind them. Expecting them to be able to do that with the 30th different reporter within a week asking the same people 'how do these events make you feel?' or 'Do you have anything to say to the family of the killer??' is unfair and downright cruel.

Let them try to move on and get on with their lives. There's a difference between being "watchdogs" and story mongering/preying on the victims.

True, they shouldn't be bothered. The media needs to turn the heat up on law enforcement's handling of this situation. As much as the people of Crandon should be left alone, they also have a right to know what exactly happened here. I'm getting the feeling that there's a lot of stuff getting covered up (especially with the three self-inflicted gunshots). It doesn't smell right.

EDIT: That's not to say there definitely is something fishy. I just think it'd be best if there was a total investigation by state law enforcement to get the entire story.

Ok, sheesh. I guess I should have said that the private citizens don't have to talk. And the media should not badger them. I clearly said governmental agencies (edit- i said matters..same dif)and not the people themselves.

The problem with this ongoing investigation is the law usually gives up as much possible information as they know. This cuts down speculation. In this case there is more speculation because of his actions. To the question at hand, yes I think it's ridiculous when an AG can't answer seemingly simple questions, such as, why didn't the authorities evacuate the Kegley land when he was sleeping in his truck?

Van Hollen told The Associated Press on Tuesday his department is still waiting for forensics and ballistics tests and interviewing everyone involved, and releasing too much information too soon could taint the integrity of witness statements.

Seems like a reasonable explanation to me.

The impatience of some people in the media astounds me sometimes. To me, this is a clear attempt by Mark Belling to increase his ratings by hatching up a conspiracy theory. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are people out there who take what this dimwit says as the gospel. While Belling raises a few points, to attribute the lack of information released to a conspiracy and cover-up is absolutely ludicrous. An execution? Come on! Give me a break. Talk about a humongous stretch.
