Wisconsin Hockey

With two effective home games against (likely) two WCHA teams that they have put in a couple of their most impressive performances against, it would not surprise me for this team to wind up in the Frozen Four. Personally, I don't think it's likely, but they're in probably the best situation possible.

I'm not sure how the heck they pulled a bid to the tournament after that awful showing against St. Cloud in the WCHA tourney, but I think it's our own little Easter miracle.

As for playing at home, that was a given as long as we made it. When they do hockey bracketology, placing #1 seeds close to home and placing host cities are like the first 2 steps.

I was in shock yesterday when I heard we were in, and a 3 seed at that!! Doesn't say much for the strength of the field this year.

The NCAA hockey tournament selection is purely mathematical. The only thing the selection committee does is decide who plays in which bracket. Generally, the top 14 teams from the PWR rankings make it:

though it could be more or less than that depending on conference tournament upsets.

Right - Pairwise decides which 14 teams go, but after that there's a set of regulations that are followed to figure out the bracketology of the whole thing. #1 seeds are placed first, usually in the regional most proximate to their home. They go down the seeds from there, 2, 3 and 4. Once they do that, they have to play around with them because they have to place host teams. They also try as best they can to avoid intra-conference matchups in the regionals. Of course, with 6 WCHA teams this season, that was impossible. They also look at attendance possibilities. In the end, the NCAA is looking to make money. But yeah, all pairwise does is determine who makes the tournament.

Badgers are leading the Pioneers 4-2 in the 3rd period. Goloubef and Mitchell scored goals a minute apart and Denver just added one. So far it looks good but you know things can change with this team.

Yup, it's full on Brewers season now. All that's left is to wait and see who sticks around for next year. My beet is Turris is out and probably at least 1-2 other nonseniors. At least they had a good showing proving they did belong in the tourney. Unfortunatley with the loss they ended the season with a losing record. I see the attendance was pretty poor for the game. Somewhere around 9800.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Looks like an OT loss, 3-2. The worst part is that we were up 2-0. Time to finally change my cell phone wallpaper over to Brewers.

Badger dominated the play most of the game, their goalie made more big saves than Connely made or we win the game. That first goal ND scored was a save a goalie needs to make in a game like this.

Disappointing loss. They dominated North Dakota. Well, next years team should be amongst the top 10 in the country even without Turris. I watched alot less Wisconsin hockey this season than usual, but it didn't seem like anyone else was NHL ready from what I saw. McBain would have a shot at Carolina's roster, but he still gets caught out of position in his own zone from what I saw. He is great at quarterbacking the powerplay, and I think it would serve him well to stay another year and be the #1 defenseman in Madison. Geoffrion has really improved, but I think he would still be in Milwaukee if he signed. Hopefully, Gretzky waits on Turris and lets him become dominant in college hockey before he signs him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

The Badgers played their best 5 periods of the season this weekend, but couldn't quite hold the ship together. It seemed like once the momentum swung toward UND and their players realized "You know, we can be good if we try", the Badgers were struggling to hang with them. Still a great game. Duncan's goal (UND's second) was absolutely sick - quick drop pass by Oshie and a total laser. Other than the last period and the OT, though, UND looked completely pedestrian. Against Princeton they were lackluster, and I feel like if you put a better team out there against them during that game, they would've cashed in a couple times on sloppy play and won. I don't think they'll get past BC.

I'm really proud of the team - every line had energy and was contributing, and hopefully they go into offseason workouts with some determination. The McBain/McDonaugh D pairing separated themselves. Golob played great and was bombs away - 2 goals off the back of the goaltender!

I think McBain (who was playing out of his mind) and Turris leave this year.

I was at both games this weekend and the Badgers played some great hockey. With a normal goaltender they would have gotten 4 goals in the first 2 periods. At Least. That UND Goaltender won it for them, but it was a great game to watch. Badgers look good for next year in hockey. Turris blamed the game on himself for not winning the faceoff that resulted in the game winning goal. Maybe he'll come back next year to make up for it. We can only hope.

That sucks. I hope we can hold on to our other freshmen like Patrick Johnson.

Johnson is a nice little college hockey player, but there is zero need to worry about the pros knocking on his door. A college player has to be truly special at his size to make the NHL.
