2008 Ticket Prices to increase 9%

Blazer25

Well now we know why Mark A sent that nice little letter.

Milwaukee Brewers ticket prices for individual game and season-ticket packages will increase by an average of 9% next year, the team announced Thursday.

Taken from here: Linkage.

It always about getting deeper into our pockets...just like when Uncle Bud was running the show. What a scam!

Oh well. With Nedly back and the 9% increase I guess it will just be single games next year, no way I'm renewing the 20 pack.

Costs rise for everyone and everything year to year. I think the average is like 3.5%. An economist can probably explain it better than I can.

Not to mention that this is 'average ticket price' meaning the bulk of the increase might be in places you don't sit.

Who cares!? We already have some of the cheapest tickets in all of baseball. The team is improving and there's more demand for the product, so raising ticket prices is to be expected. If paying an extra $3 per ticket is going to help the team pay our young stars, I'm all for it.

If the increase in ticket prices are identical to the increase of inflation for the year for the value of the US dollar, or the raise in the real and nominal prices for you economics people, then the price increase means nothing.

Those are some decent jumps in ticket prices, it looks like. Well, I'm going to look at a 10 pack for next season, assuming they're still available. Those individual game ticket prices are getting a little steeper, assuming what is in the other thread is accurate. It doesn't affect me as much, but it's going to get harder to organize road trips with friends...especially since we don't live in the greater Milwaukee area.

My one big concern with Attanasio has been that it seems like Miller Park is becoming more of a "high end experience" for the fairly affluent, rather than something accessible to the average working person, and it seems like that trend is continuing.

i say stop whining. i do not (DO NOT!!!) agree with keeping Nedly, and I am shocked that they did, but i still feel the organization is out there to win. i want a winning team. i want my heart ripped out when they dont make the playoffs. its so much better than being the spoiler for "real" ball clubs for the last 5 months of the season. this was my first pennant race i can remember. (24 yrs of age) i loved it.

i also know that if i want this to become a tradition of a winning ball club, I have to do my part. Its like voting. You dont have to. The government will still be there if you dont. but you feel better. you know you did as much as you could have done to influence the outcome.

Miller Park is still one of the cheapest parks around. I looked at the Marketing Report's Fan Cost Index briefly, and were very close to the bottom for average price. Who else is down there? Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Pitt, Texas, Florida, Washington. We are a winning team with cheap seats in a small market. I couldnt ask anything else from an owner here in milwaukee.

I want to resign COCO now. Prince, Braun, JJ, Rickie YO! later. To do that, the Brewers need money. I will go to as many games as I can and wear as much Brewers paraphernalia as I can to help them do that. Why? I feel this ownership group will do what they can to win.

crackley: I agree with what you're saying, at least in principle. Miller Park is still a good entertainment value. Parking is dirt cheap compared to most other cities (other than maybe Tampa Bay, where it's free). You can tailgate before the game with your own stuff and bring in unopened food into the stadium, and not pay for food at Miller Park concession stands, etc.

Like I mentioned, for me, it doesn't affect me too much. My wife and I are on solid financial ground (we're by no means wealthy, though), and have no kids. Dropping fifty bucks on game tickets and driving to Miller Park isn't too big a deal for us. It can be for a lot of our friends who don't have the same advantages, and are maybe just out of college, etc. I just feel bad for young families and blue collar people who might have a tougher time making it to a ball game now. Prices have gone up steadily each season for the last couple years, and I just think that is slightly worrisome for some people.

I was expecting an increase in ticket prices, I guess, based on this year's ticket sales and (it seems) reawakened interest in the Brewers.

Therefore, I was surprised to find that the season ticket holder price for terrace box has still not changed since we started sitting there in 2002 (though we do have to commit two months sooner than in the past, in order to get that same price).

I continue to believe that TB is a reasonably priced seating option. The height is a drag sometimes, but I like the view. Our only blind spot is the right field corner, which holds for a lot of pricier seats as well. I'm frugal by nature, but I'm content where we are, and I don't feel like the pricing schedule has us out of options.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Season-ticket holder prices range from as low as $9 per ticket to as high as $38 for field infield boxes
Last year the cheapest season tickets were $8.00 a ticket.

So while the average may have moved up 9% - they raised the rates on the cheapest seats 13%.

That is kind of surprising, usually these ticket rate increases affect the higher end seats. Overall, I am willing to do my part to help build a winning ball club. And the value is still fantastic compared to many other alternatives.

gesh like some people stated here....brewer tickets are some of the cheapest in baseball... then paired with the fact that ( we hope ) is getting re invested into the team so we can enjoy ( for once ) winning seasons I see no issue. Now i would be upset if the money was not put back into the team ....so as long as that payroll goes up and the team has a decent competitive team thats enjoyable to watch...then I think its all fair.

"Higher end"? You can attend any game for less than an evening movie, never mind theater, opera, comedy clubs, etc. Never mind I'm sure they will have plenty of specials in the Spring Madness, 5 County, and so on.

Robert always mentions live entertainment is expensive, yet folks act as if the Brewers should be exempt from that. As Hawing points out, significant discounts are available to any fan with the ability to go to 10 or more games...and 2.87M came out this year.

I think 3M will attend with a good start and aggressive marketing in April. A dollar here or there makes no difference to most fans.

Will we ever get past this? Every year complaints arise about increasing ticket prices. Let's face it though, it is a fact of life.

I by no means think it is a scam. In fact, i believe it is good business. When Bud did it, it was a scam because the Brewers did not try to win. I think it is a different era though and Mark A. has proven in a short time that he is serious about winning.

If you don't like it, don't go to the games. In fact, order a pizza and get some good beer (Anchor Steam or maybe Hoegaarden) and enjoy the game at home. No biggie. I went to three games this year at Miller Park and watched 125 games on Direct TV in Chicago and was fine with it. (Especially when I got to listen to visitors announcers.)

You'd be crazy not to, unless you've decided you no longer like Brewers baseball. I dont think existing season ticket prices went up more than 2-3% across the board.

Selig lost money on a year to year basis, Attanasio is making a huge profit each year.

I think you are quoting me - but I am agreeing with you.

I was merely pointing out that the lowest price tickets went up 13%. So that has to mean that some of the higher end seats ($30+) went up less than 9%.

And I agree that the Brewers are a great value at $9 a ticket for the cheapest season tickets.

The ticket prices aren't that bad, even with the new increases. My fear is that they are going to stop letting us bring in food and unopened plastic bottles. That is pretty rare in stadiums these days, and with the increased attendance, forcing people to buy stuff at the stadium could help financially, especially with the profits they make on that stuff. Of course that all depends on the contract with Sportservice and how much $ the Brewers actually see out of the money spent each year.

I don't worry about ticket prices since i only attend 5-8ish games a year.Plus,it's not so much the ticket prices that get me,it's what i pend inside.I'm not the conservative type when it comes to money even though i'm far from wealthy. When i'm out places i buy whatever i want and at 6.50 a beer and buying brats/nachos etc,i generally spend more inside than my ticket price.

If though i was a 20-30 game a year or more fan,i can see why ticket/concession/parking increases can add up quick.

They raised the cost of the seat by $1. It counts for 13% because the seats were so cheap to begin with. The most expensive seats went from $35 to $38. It's only an 8.5% increase, but it is a larger dollar increase.

I was expecting a price increase. I do really like the different cost structures of season tickets. Those of us that have suffered through season tickets since the '02 season should get a bit of break compared to the Johnny Come Latelys.

I really don't think they can stop allowing people from bringing in food and drink unopened. If they did this the already long lines at concessions stands would be even longer.

So my 20 game pack goes from 160 to 180 this year, or 200 if I wait on it. It stinks but it's still a very good price and it's the price we pay for success (hopefully)
