The "Why the heck do I like this song!?" thread

DougJones43

Time to put your pride and dignity aside. Here is where you can list some songs that you like, but you have no idea why. You listen to it in your car and sing along when there's nobody with you. You have the mp3 stashed on your computer, and you hope nobody ever finds it. It goes against every fiber of your musical being. You know it sucks, but you can't get enough of it. I'll start.

"Luka" by Suzanne Vega

"Grease" by Frankie Valli

"Take On Me" by A-Ha

"Run Away" by Real McCoy

"Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia

"Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by the Crash Test Dummies

I also like more than one song by Avril Lavigne, but that's all I will say out of fear that I will do irrepairable damage to my Brewerfan.net image (although I think it's too late already http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif ). I defy anybody to beat that list.

Africa - Toto

Never Surrender - Corey Hart

Turning Japanese - The Vapors

The Final Countdown - Europe

I could go on and on about 1 hit wonders from the 80s that I loved... Those are the 4 most embarrassing in the top of my Winamp most played list... though I guess to be fair, Corey Hart also wore his sunglasses at night, so he wasn't exactly a 1 hit wonder.

...and for the record, the Top Gun soundtrack is pure ownage, I'm still trying to work Danger Zone into a highlight film but I'm pretty sure the boys would laugh at me...

I feel so much more at home in this thread than in the "How can that song be popular thread".

EMF - Unbelievable

Go West - The King Of Wishful Thinking

Wilson Phillips - Hold On

Wilson Phillips - Release Me

Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On

Queensryche - Silent Lucidity

Taco - Puttin On The Ritz

MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This

More than once, I've heard a song on the radio which was catchy enough to get my attention, and then found it was a Gwen Stefani song. Then I feel kind of dumb for even initially liking it.

I used to feel the same way about Prince songs, but what seemed like risque lyrics in the 80s no longer seems like a big deal.

Eric Carmen - All By Myself and Never Gonna Fall In Love Again

Bonnie Tyler - It's A Heartache

David Geddes - Blind Man In The Bleachers

Firefall - Strange Way

ELO - Telephone Line

I don't remember a lot from growing up in the 70's due to death, divorce, alcoholism, drugs and all the other fun times I had with my family, but I'll always remember the lyrics to songs like these. Crazy.

Lot of Phil Collins.

"Billy....Billy don't you lose my number.....'cause you're not anywhere....that I can't find yooooooooooooou"

and that song he did with Philip Bailey ("Easy Lover") - mostly because I liked how they used it in the promos for GTA: Vice City Stories.

Fox on the Run -- Sweet

You do not need to ask yourself why you love this song. It rules, that's why.

I guess mine is "Lay It On the Line" by Triumph. Or anything by them for some strange reason.

I also loved the heck out of the first Justin Timberlake album. Didn't really hear the second one which inspired the hipster lovefest for him, but I loved the first one. "Rock Your Body" in particular. Everything the Neptunes touched was gold in those days.
