nba video games

patrickgpe
I am not one to play nba games but decided to pick up one last night. I got nba live 08 for ps3. Didn't really play it, but i put it in just to see if the bucks rosters were up to date. To my suprise there was not only no Yi but no Mo Williams and Charlie Bell. Also Julius Hodge and Earl Boykins were on the roster. They may be in free agents or something, didn't have the game on for more than 2 minutes, but so far i am very disappointed. Does anyone play basketball games, did anyone get this one yesterday? If you guys picked up others, are their similar problems. I got live cause i thought it would be cool to have a game with a FIBA license.

I hear 2K is much better than Live. Yi probably isn't on there because he signed really late, Bell signed after Yi so I can see why he's not on there either. Have no idea why Mo wouldn't be on and I have no idea why Boykins is still on he should be in the free agents list and Hodge was released before the end of last year so they kind of suck at putting together rosters.

So I just picked it up for Wii and corrected the roster except for Yi. I can play with him on the Chinese National Team but can't move him to the Bucks roster. Gameplay is fun but the rest of the game is seriously lacking with no franchise mode, no create a player, and for some reason I can't take a timeout during a game. Anyone have the Wii version and has figured out how to move Yi to the Bucks?

I've heard online roster update coming around the beginning of the season. The more I play the game the more disappointing it becomes for me. No pump fakes, no spins moves, no turbo button (if a guy gets past you, you aren't catching up). This game almost seems like a beta version to me and seems to leave out a lot. When you get the shooting motion to register, which is rarely, it is fun to hit a shot. Hopefully EA releases something to fix the problem with the shooting motion registering, because it is extremely annoying to work to get an open look and then pull up and have your guy do nothing but stand there as you frantically pull up on the remote. I thought about taking it back but I think I'll keep it around for a little bit of fun. I wouldn't recommend it if you are a hardcore basketball fan because it is lacking in several areas.

the problem is that you picked it up for the Wii. I was reading GamePro(or my Nerd magazine which is what my wife calls it.) they talked about how developers are half assing games for the Wii and putting alot of stock into the Next Gen games.

update: i sold nba live on ebay (took a small hit), bought nba 2k7 and its much better. The rosters are accurate and actually has all members of the team in the game, which is helpful. I only played once and i am pretty bad. Its been a while since i played a basketball videogame so it may take me a while.

Last time I checked the Wii was a next gen system. The graphics may not be up to par with the other two but that's not why I play games. The only system I own is the Wii right now and I was just giving my review for the game. I have heard mix reviews for the other systems also. Basketball always seems like the toughest sport to mimick in a video game because of the creativity of the game. I have found out how to call time outs now and not being able to do spin moves and pump fakes makes me actually run plays so that's not all bad. The superstar challenge mode is pretty fun too as you replay key games from last year to see if you can duplicate, for instance, Kobe's big game.

Anyone pick up NBA 2K8 for the PS2 and is it worth it for the $30?

I rented 2k8 for 360 the other day because I've always been an NBA Live guy (since SNES, so a long time). I just heard so much about it being a better game. Well I played and I really like it. It's smoothe! I really think it's time for me to make the jump to 2k. I think you guys will enjoy the game. The Bucks look pretty good too.

I have a Wii as well and this is my assesment. The Wii is a system that is made to have casual fun with, and play a different type of game. Hardcore sport games aren't going to be fun on there and therefore developers don't really care and just throw out a watered down version to make people happy. I don't think you'll ever have a good Madden or NBA game for the Wii.
