Inbox Notification...Blue "Navigation" button (Latest: stuck again--now unstuck)

I have no idea whether or not this is affecting anyone else, but ever since I got a message roughly a week ago, the navigation button has stayed blue, and when the profile pop-down drops, it tells me I have a new message in my inbox. I have tried everything, including deleting all my messages, yet still no change. It's getting really annoying, and if someone actually did pm me, I'd likely not check it anytime soon, given the 'cry wolf' stuff.

I understand this is not a major issue, but it's really gotten obnoxious...any ideas how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I know a couple of other members have reported this issue. I don't know if it'll work or not, but you might want to try a hard refresh or clearing your cache. Instructions for various browsers:

I'm almost reluctant to post this because the information is confusing and I'd bet on it not helping, but here's the most pertinent support thread:

I'm not sure if information provided by a staff member in reply #29 in that thread is a solution or a simply an explanation:

We are looking in to the problem. The menu is cached where as the navigation bar isn't. If the blue button is flashing then that is an accurate indicator that there are new items, if the count next to inbox, friendships or comments is 0 then you are seeing a cached menu. If you go to another domain where the menu isn't cached then it will sync up. The navigation button will not stop flashing if you just open your unread message because you have not navigated away from the page, when you have read the message and then gone to another page the button will stop flashing.
He's saying that the navigation button will un-blue itself if you go to another Yuku site (support.yuku.com, skins.yuku.com, gethelp.yuku.com, yuku.com, or whatever). However, he isn't clear if something can actually be fixed by doing this or if it's just a way to see if you have new messages or not.

I haven't had this problem occur for me and I can't think of a way to force it to happen, so I can't really test this issue myself.

If you want to accurately know if you have new messages and ignore the navigation button entirely, these are two options:

  • Checking the preference to receive an e-mail notification for every PM.
[li]In Navigation area, hit the Settings link on the left side.
  • Click the Notifications link at the top of the page that loads, then click Options.
  • Check the box to receive e-mails for private messages and hit the submit button at the bottom of the page.

[/li]

  • Relying on the Yuku Firefox extension. This is actually very handy and beats the built-in system anyway. Additional information about the Yuku Firefox extension starts at this point in the Usability FAQ.

Something hopeful, but not completely definite: in the next push, there are plans to include a new and more user friendly message notification that won't involve the flashing blue navigation button. Cross your fingers that Yuku staff can get this completed.

The push is scheduled for late this week, but Yuku has been known to move pushes back a few days if it means being able to put the finishing touches on something significant.

The e-mail notification bug is another weird issue that affects some members but not others. I read somewhere that a fix for on and off e-mail notifications is ready to be pushed, but that came from a member rather than a staff member.

Yuku has a long list of things that are supposed to be pushed really soon. The last I heard was that this stuff was supposed to be broken down into two or more smaller pushes; doing that minimizes down time and it also allows time for final testing on stuff that's not quite ready. I've pretty much lost track of what the current plans might be, though; it's gotten a bit complicated to follow.

If you're getting a white screen while trying to access your Inbox or after sending a message, it'll help the repair gurus if you post a brief description of what happened to this thread:

The inboxes (and support inboxes) are currently experiencing problems. This includes messages getting stuck, and new message indicators showing a new message, but the message not appearing.

Please check this topic in the bug forum for updates.

Ok, the phantom message + blue "Navigation" bar makes its triumphant return!1!! I'm getting the feeling that there's nothing we can do, and that this is going to just be a recurring problem that Yuku will hope they can solve.

EDIT: For anyone curious, I simply deleted my most recent message, and problem solved. Fwiw, this message really was new, & the reason why the "Nav." bar was blue to begin with today. Simple fix... but if you want to save the PM (as in, you want the program to work the way it's supposed to,), you're not in luck.
