1st winning season in 15(!) years!

sheetswannabe

Boy it feels great doesnt it?? Even though we missed the playoff its nice to get that outta the way on a NICE comeback win!

This 82nd win makes me realize that:

1. The veterans struggled as the rookies prevailed.

2. We need a new coach

3. We need bullpen help!

But lets not make this a vent/sad thread, but a FUN CELEBRATION THREAD!

It's ok, it really is. I never would bad-mouth a winning season after such a long drought. But it's basically a consolation prize, at this point.

Never has a "consolation" prize been so literally indicative of my feelings upon receiving it.

Group hug! Heh.

Maybe we should be grateful we were even in the race. Maybe we should take a look at where we live, because some of us, not all of the comments, are starting to sound like we live on the north side of Chicago.

And that is not a compliment nor is it something we should be proud of. Brewer/Wisconsinites are loyal. Let's not start to whine and complain. We are better than that.

And if you choose to attack my comments....look in the mirror first.

Baby steps. Cubs better win it all this year because they aren't going to come close to the playoffs the next four seasons.

82 (or 83) wins is better than 81, certainly for a team that hasn't finished over .500 in so long--BUT, the biggest accomplishment of this season will be that they were legitimately in the race the whole way. While it was a year when the division title was there for the picking, and one with some bitter disappointment this week, it still was mostly a fun year as there was a reason to tune in every night.

It was a fun game to be at today. I initially had no enthusiasm for it after being eliminated last night. But once the excitement began in the 9th inning, it definitely was thrilling. I just can't believe the irony of Gwynn getting the big hit against the Padres. That's just stunning.

And then to have the local guy Vinny Rottino clinch a winning season is amazing. It reminds of when Damian Miller hit that three-run homerun in Pittsburgh a few years ago to give us the .500 season. Cheeseheads come through when it matters.

I was shocked that the crowd was still spirited after being eliminated. I was expecting more no-shows and disinterst. The fans were unbelievable.

I agree that it was more of a relief to win #82. I was really worried for a while. I am so happy to get that monkey off the franchise's back.

I am really happy about this season even if the end result isn't the playoffs. As a Brewer fan my main goal is to be entertained, most of the time entertainment comes from winning, and this year I was entertained till the last series of the year. Many thanks to the players for all the good times that they have provided.

I forgot to mention that I was happy for Jenkins and Sheets. It would have just been too weird to never have played on a Brewers team with a winning record. I think 83-79 will look a lot better than 82-80. At least you can say you had the same record as last year's champions.

Let's try to get one more.

I was going to ask "Why?" But then I figured out that you were probably saying that the next four years are the Brewers' years. But to that I ask what will be different the next four years versus this year? I definitely think the Brewers will improve, but do you think the Cubs will just stop picking up the pieces they need? And the whole Sheets thing...if they don't win with him next year, then he's probably gone. I just don't have the same confidence that some of you have about the future. Sure, there are strong points, but this year could be as close as they get for all we know. Houston and St. Louis aren't going to just roll over either.

I'm not saying the Brewers don't have potential in the near future...I know they do, but quite frankly I'm tired of potential. There's no guarantee things will be any different.

I was just glad they stopped giving Nix at-bats by the end of the game. I seriously thought Ned was going to put the game in his hands, which seemed ill advised.

But getting back to the topic at hand, today's win helped ease my pain over the last few games. I've been looking forward to an 82nd win for 15 seasons now, and while we could spend all night talking about why it should have happened before September 29, I am glad it happened and especially that I was able to see it in person.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

It is definitely nice to say we've got our first winning season in 15 years. It would have been very disappointing to finish 81-81 after having 81 with 4 games to go.

if you told me this is how it was ggoing to turn out at the beginning of the season, i would have been really happy...and you know what, i still am...this sucker's been a roller coaster, but there's no way i could claim to be pissed about the results...

even without a playoff appearance, i still say that a good thing came in Milwaukee in the 25th..
