Sign Bonds

I know I will get hammered for even suggesting this but I would very seriously consider signing Barry Bonds for next year. We can probably get him for around the amount that Jenkins is making and we would only have to committ to a one yr deal. Throw in the fact that the Giants wont offer arbitration and it wont cost us draft picks and it makes the situation that much more appealing. Bonds would be the high OBP hitter that this lineup could really use and could really make our lineup devastating. Picture this lineup:

1-Weeks 2B

2-Bonds LF

3- Braun 3B

4- Fielder 1B

5- Hart RF

6- Hall CF

7- Hardy SS

8- New catcher

9- Pitcher

Now I realize that Bonds brings a lot of baggage but I for one would be willing to overlook the steroids in order to win.

Yes, he is still a dangerous bat in the lineup, but his defense has declined sharply in the past season or so. Also, having someone like that around so many young players probably isn't ideal.

I do hope the Brewers upgrade the OF in this off-season, but I don't think Bonds is a good solution right now. He'll probably end up going to an AL team to DH, realistically.

I completely understand the concept that he was a 1.045 OPS player, despite his age. However, I do not want to be anywhere in the vicinity of Bonds if/when he gets indicted. I would be against the acquisition so much, that I would seriously ponder ceasing to watch Brewer games. I'm not kidding.

I hope Doug has more integrity than that.

While it would be a hell of an addition for the Brewer offense, there's no way Bonds settles for Bonds money, IMO. His starting price would be something like what he signed with the Giants for this season -- 1 year, $15 million. That's too much for a team like the Brewers to invest in a guy like Bonds, whose salary you might have to eat when you give him his flat-out release if an indictment comes out.

Yeah I'd definitely be in favor of bringing Bonds to Milwaukee, but I just can't see it happening. Not only would he likely want more money than would be prudent for this team to offer, but he'd also realize he'd take an unbelievable amount of flak from fans of the team Hank Aaron played for.

Bonds is going to be a DH at either LAA/OAK/SEA. If none of those teams sign him, I see him retiring.

I would actually think that having Bonds would help the Brewers a good deal, especially considering the options afforded the team in later innings, especially if we were to bring Bonds off the bench half the time. But, moreover, it would help Barry and his image even more if he were to return to Milwaukee and play for a below market deal. If he keeps his mouth shut, he could bring a pennant to Milwaukee. Now I understand the implications of basically selling your soul to the devil, so I can understand the naysayers, but as alluded to earlier, that lineup could post the highest OPS in the NL, and on days Yo is pitching, the highest in the mjaors. The only negative is what his presence would do to young Ryan Braun. I hate to imagine a parallel to young Anakin and Sen. Palpatine.

Bonds isn't going to sniff 15 million.

He'll get 10 million at best, regardless of what HE wants.

Moses Alou got $8.5 million to show up 1/4 for the Mets. Bonds>Alou. Bonds will easily get $10 million.

And ya think that when he signed that deal the Mets knew he'd miss time?

So first of all, what he ENDED up playing means very little.

Second, he made 7.5

Third, he played in over half their games.

And fourth, he can still field, and he's not a clubhouse cancer.

So....unless you know more than Gammon and Kurjian or whatever his name is, both of whom thought Bonds would get 8 or 9 million, I'm guessing he doesn't get "easily" get 10 million. Not for a guy who's going to hit .275(and a great OBP) with 26 HR's, and absolutely ZERO outfield defense.

Alou can no longer play defense and was coming off missing serious time when the Mets signed him.

And its $8.5 million guaranteed, he has an option on 2008 with a $1m buyout.

You're arguing semantics.

And Alou's still worlds better than Bonds in the field. No question about that.

And Bonds may not even get a full season in. A certain Federal Prosecutor has turned his attention right onto Bonds.
