Why are our fans such bums?

Warriors76

Last night at the game, like half of the 33,000 left after Fielder hit his second bomb. We tried getting an MVP chant going any pretty much everyone was either filing out or sitting on their hands. Going to Bucks and Brewers games is like going to a museum. There were probably 12,000 people left to see the last out. It's just pathetic. I hate to do this, but when I went to one of the Brewers games at Wrigley, I didn't see a single Cubs fan leave that game early, even when it was fairly obvious they had it sealed. There is no talk of "beating the crowd" and ducking out.

"Beating traffic" is such a lame excuse anyway. You don't beat anything, half the people leave "early" with you and the game usually ends like 10 minutes later. Just sit down, wait until the game is over and actually make NOISE. I bet if the Brewers have a 3-1 lead in the top of the 9th on the last game of the year, if victory means a playoff berth, you will still have the same losers filing out.

I agree. But there are some people that attend the game with elderly people or with children and for some reason, have it in their head(s) that leaving early will make the process easier on them. Whether it be less crowded walkways or whatever. Also, maybe some of them aren't Brewers fans, hence leaving early.

"Summers over, people have work and school. 33,000 is pretty amazing for this time of year. Last year at this time we were only drawing in the teens."

C'mon. This is the dorky attitude I'm talking about. Filing out in the mid-8th is going to save you what? 20 minutes? How many people do you think would leave a Monday Night Packer game if the Pack were up 35-14, needing 2 wins to make the playoffs? I'm guessing not half the stadium.

I too used to feel this way, but it all depends on the crowd, the game, and the moment for me now. I probably would have left early last night. The other game I left early for this year was the Sunday loss to Philly when we were up 5 runs heading into the 9th - thank God I didn't have to sit through the rest of that!! I love to stay until the last pitch, but my wife doesn't necessarily. There are many factors, and last night being a work/school night, up big, and raining, I don't blame people for leaving early to save maybe an hour. Now if that happens on friday, saturday, or sunday I will have issues.

Yeah I know the school/work/rain/weekday thing but I could never leave a game early. I paid for a ticket to watch a full game so I'm going to stay whether it's a close game either way or blowout either way. Sometimes I hope for extra inning games so I get free baseball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

How about a Sunday afternoon game with the Packers needing 5 wins to make the playoffs, against the Lions?

I have a tough time giving people grief for leaving a game early when the result is in hand. Are they supposed to so jacked up to see Chris Spurling that they don't know what else to do with themselves? They may not have left if the Brewers were either in first place, closer to it, or had a winning tradition of being close to or in first place as long as the Packers.

But then again, they may have.

And I would have killed for 20 extra minutes of sleep this morning.

What's dorky about people having free-will? They were there. They bought their tickets. They obviously saw what they came to see and were satisfied. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It doesn't make you any less of a fan. It just makes them not like you. So?

A lot of people come to the Brewers games from outside Milwaukee (frankly, I wish people within Milwaukee would support the team more, but that's not the point of this discussion). Myself, I live in Jefferson County, so Milwaukee is a decent hike, especially on a work night. Getting home around midnight (assuming the game goes a little long) and having to work the next day isn't always that fun, you know?

20 minutes at the very least. It's not just the time left in the game, it's the time leaving the parking lot with everyone else, time on a more congested freeway etc... But thats not the point. Unlike Miller Park, not many kids / families attending those Monday night Packer games. It also doesn't cost most people hundreds of dollars for a Brewer ticket. When I drop $500 of packer tickets I'm staying till they kick me out.

Not to mention a Monday Night game in the NFL is an event in itself. Your trying to compare apple and oranges.

What do you mean "tried getting an MVP chant going"? That MVP chant after Prince's second home run was probably the loudest one I'd heard all year?

Edit: In fact, I taped the game to rewatch parts, and I was actually surprised it wasn't picked up on TV better, it was that well chanted.

And as far as leaving early, I can guarantee you that if all 33k stayed and left at the same time, it would have taken everyone twice as long to get out then. So the argument of not saving time is off base.

Personally I stay until the end of 99% of any game I go to, anywhere. But that's a personal preference. I don't really get upset at people who leave and I don't think our fans our bums. I was at the last two games, and the crowd was pumped and ready to go, despite us starting the week at 3.5 games out. I think these last two games have been some of the most energtic ones I've been at all year.

Quoting a member's post and using 'dorky' to describe it isn't cool. Check out the rules, especially the condescension stuff.

You can't be serious. "Dorky attitude?"

Yeah I kinda agree with Warriors76 here. Calling an attitude "dorky" is hardly condescending/cruel. In addition, he was describing a general attitude of many people as"dorky", not singling out a poster and making fun of them. Just my $0.02

I have no problem with it during a 9 run lead, but what really ticks me off is when "fans" leave during the 6th or 7th innings in a close ballgame. Worse yet is when they come in the 2nd or 3rd and then leave early and only see 3-4 innings of baseball.

Those are called Dodger games.

You know what I can't stand? The fan who stands up, turns around and wave both hands upward as to stay "Stand you fools! don't you understand? this is important!" man does that get on my nerves..

I also get annoyed by fans who don't understand how great is it to have 33,000 fans at a Tuesday home game in September.

I was at the game on Monday and couldn't believe how many people in Brewer gear were filing out early. Sure it made it easy for me to leave after the final out for my drive back to Madison but I have waited a long time to see the Brewers play meaningful baseball in September. I guess I agree with the original poster it seems pretty lame to leave early to save a couple minutes on what is already a late night, I make the drive from Madison at least a dozen times for weekday games and fully expect a late night. I guess they have a right to leave early and I take my right to think it is lame in a pennant race.

I also hated the wave attempts while JJ was trying to bat with runners on base. Hopefully the Brewers success will breed a lot sell outs in the future and fans will learn don't do the wave when the home team is trying to bat and people will also learn getting up or cming back to the middle of the section in the middle of an at bat is poor behavior as well.

I was also at the game on Monday and was somewhat disappointed to see so many people leave early. It wasn't just the cheap seats either, people were leaving field level seats early. The group in front of me got there late and left in the 6th...even the Cardinals fans sitting next to me stayed longer. I know some people have school and work, but I couldn't imagine paying that much for field level seats and not staying for the whole game.
