Lincecum called up to big leagues

This may fit better in the MLB forum, but given his standing as a prospect in recent years I'm adding this post here.

Lincecum's stuff is just filthy, and he seemed to get better upon pitching against professional hitters. I believe the Giants are on Sunday Night Baseball this week, so everyone will have the chance to watch him pitch.

I had the chance to interview Lincecum last fall for my work with PG. I'd include a link to the interview, but it's not working right now.

Reading that article I saw this sentence:

Quote:
At the time of his promotion Lincecum was third in the minors in ERA (behind Brandon Hynick and Joe Winkelsas)

Winkelsas... bleck. Not a name that brings happy memories.

I'm amazed that someone with such a slight build (5'11", 170lb) is able to approach 100mph with his fastball. I believe a lot of scouts shied away because of his size.

I got to see him once at UW and, as expected, he dominated. I love watching him pitch.

Think Roy Oswalt.

I am looking forward to watching this game Sunday night. Lincecum really handle himself well in camp with Giants and it was only a matter of time before he debuted.

Curtis Leskanic was maybe 5'9" and 170, and he threw 100 mph.

I always thought Leskanic was taller. At least he was portrayed so in Ken Griffey Jr Baseball for SNES.....

Curt Leskanic is 6'0" and played listed at 180lbs.

He may be listed at 6'0" but he's 5'10" tops. I'm 6'1" and stood next to Curtis at a bar in Milwaukee and had him by two inches easy.

and I've golfed with him, had drinks with him, and been to a concert with him. I'm 5'10", and I had him by at least 1 ". That's why I used him as an example. It baffled me that we hit the golf ball the same distance, yet I throw a fastball with maybe 50% of the velocity of him. I just don't understand the physics.

Who was the scrubs' 5th starter the year they lost in the NLSC? His name escapes me, but he must have been about 5'10" 170 and could deal. They traded him a year later I believe.

Juan Cruz? He wasn't their fifth starter, but he looks short and thin to me too, and he throws hard. He's listed at 6'2" though.

Don't look at height in a pitcher...look how thick his legs are or core muscles are...height only helps with deception on the hitter which is huge...has nothing to do with how hard somebody throws
