Dennis Looking Good So Far

Tbadder
I love the smell of fastballs in the morning. I bet it felt good to be him last night. But I kinda think a non-adrenaline stoked DS might not be able to keep it up. On the other hand, a change of scenery has done a lot for many players. good luck my friend.

I just hope at some point, he can look back on things and realize that the Brewers did him a favor (even if a small one) by sending him to a team that has room for Dennis to develop as a ML pitcher. By the numbers, he wasn't going to get that opportunity again here in Milwaukee; that they sent him to a division rival is still a bit surprising.

(Not going to look it up while at work, but was Cecil Cooper still working for the Brewers when Sarfate was in the minor league ranks?)

I wish him the best of luck in the future....except when the Brewers need some runs.

From what I heard from DS he wasn't mad or anything with the Brewers when he was removed from the 40 man. He was a little anxious to see what the next step would be for him. I personally think he has a great make up and will be a solid relief pitcher. I just don't think he was going to have the opportunity in Milwaukee and the year he had this year in Nashville wasn't jaw dropping.

He did pitch for the Astros before the Brewers game and looked pretty good in those also. He was throwing the ball pretty hard in Nashville, so I'm not sure if it was all adrenaline, but I'm sure he was pretty fired up to face the Crew.

This is an audition for the Astros. He has no options left and they either have to keep him on opening day 2008 or expose him to waivers. I think it will come down to the makeup of their roster next spring and how he throws in spring training.

He's always teased with flashes like he showed last night, but consistency has never been there.

He had an amazing stretch in Aug/Sep in Nashville IIRC. He had like 2 woeful appearances at the end of July which bloated his numbers (I'm too tired to look them up right now), and then went like 8-10 appearnes without letting a run, and with more than 1K/inning.

OK here are the numbers:

In the month of August, 8 games, 13.1 IP, 7 hits, 1R, 0ER, 4 BB, 17 K, BAA .152

So he was in a groove when we traded him. Again, his MO was really good stretches, then a few awful stints, and that inconsistancy is what probably held him back as he always reportedly had "stuff" just a matter of harnessing it day to day.
