Out of town scoreboard

Patrick425

I was at the game on Saturday night and at around 7pm I started looking for the Cubs score on the Auxillary scoreboard in left field. It got to be 7:10, 7:15, 7:20...no Cubs score (they still had the score from the day game). So, I went down to the fan assistant desk and asked why they were not showing the Cub score. The first reply I got was "They played today, the score is out there." Then I said, "Yes, but they are playing a double header." Then anothre person at the desk said "Well, it hasn't started yet". To which I replied, "Uh, I think it started at 7:00 or 7:05" They finally agreed to make a call to whoever is in charge of it and shortly after I got back to my seat the score was being posted.

I realize it was only 10 or 15 minutes without a score and that they probably would have realized it eventually, but come on! This is a pennant race, they should be on top of that from the start of the game.

I don't really see the point to this post, to be honest with you. Yea, it was kinda a dumb mistake on their part, but you got it taken care of quickly, mistakes happen, this one was rectified efficiently, there probably wasn't even a score in the cub game by the time it was fixed..why the need to post about it?

Nothing to do with being a waste of time. I just don't quite see the need to make a post about someones error at the Brewers. To work for the Brewers you don't need to know the cubs schedule and be a die hard baseball fan. It's a mistake that could have happened anywhere in the country, and probably has happened in other stadiums and will for years to come. I don't know if you're suggesting that every employee of every MLB team knows everything that's going on around the league, but the way I see what happened is they screwed up the double header, you pointed it out to them, they fixed it. Why the need to come on Brewerfan and talk about how they screwed up and you had to fix it then chastise the employees for not knowing about the second game. It just seems like something that should have been left at the stadium. It's good your excited and it's good that the issue got fixed. But coming on with a chastise of the employees of the brewers for a mistake isn't really worth it, is it?

And really, when it comes right down to it, we should be more worried about what we do rather than impulsively checking scores of what the cubs do. Go out and win and hopefully things will take care of themselves. If they don't, oh well, we've been looking foward to next year for 25 years, what's 26?

I'll reiterate what I stated in my original post:

It's probably just me, I'm a little anal when it comes to this stuff. Everyone else is probably wondering what the big deal is also.

If you want to suggest that this post be moved to "off-topic", or disagree and state that you don't think it's that big of a deal, that's fine. But to say "I don't see what the point of this post is" I think is rude. And heck if they don't make it in 26 years, what's 27? and if they don't make it in 27 years, what's 28?.......and so on and so on.

If you don't find the topic of conversation important, you don't really need to comment.

Anyway, the out of town scoreboard has bugged me a bit this year too, as it's often a good 15 minutes behind. On the other hand, the same is often true for TV broadcasts, so I don't know. I do think on the last homestand the OOT scoreboard is going to be more important than ever, so it'll be good if they make an effort to keep up then.

A trick I learned this weekend (which I bet a ton of people already know):

If you have a cell phone with text messaging, you can send a basic text message like "MLB CUBS" to GOOGLE (type in the numbers for each letter in GOOGLE), and a few seconds later you'll get a text message with the score for the current Cubs game (or whatever team). It just costs a standard text messaging fee.

Here's a thread about that: Text messaging Googl (46645). 4INFO's service is also mentioned.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
