Tiger is AMAZING

I use to watch Tennis a lot when McEnroe and Conners were at the top of their game and then to a lesser extent Agasi. I see the highlights of Federer on ESPN and he does seem like he's dominating. However, because he's not an American, it's hard for me to get excited about him. I don't know what that makes me? A anti-globalist? Is that even a word?

I don't know, but I also have a hard time rooting for foreign golfers. Especially when they wear wide white belts and tight clothing. I don't understand that. Don't you think that when it's 90+ degrees out and your walking 18 holes, 4+ times a week, you would want to wear something a little more loose fitting and breathable? Is it for fashion? Because I don't get that look at all.

It was astounding listening to Agassi and McEnroe do color on USA during the Roddick/Federer match at the US Open. In the 3rd set, one or the other said Roddick was playing a near perfect match, and he was down 2 sets.

The play-by-play guy asked what you could do to beat Federer when he was at his best, and there was silence, and then laughter, and I believe McEnroe said "I think that covers it".

Tiger is good, but he still does not win nearly every week. Federer is almost like a machine.

There is never going to be a golfer than wins "every week". Golfers are going up against 90 other golfers every week. They don't play on the same dimensions every week (and yes, I understand that there are different surfaces in tennis). Every course is different and, sometimes, in very extreme ways. Tennis is more about athleticism. If you are a good athlete and good at tennis, you will probably be consistently good from week to week. Golf (like baseball in many ways) is very much a skill sport. If your swing is not mechanically perfect or you miss hit the ball by a fraction of an inch, the outcome of your shots will very greatly. There is also no defense in golf. You have no control how your opponent does, you can only control you're own game.

Trust me, Tiger is about as dominant of a golfer as there has ever been.

Federer is just amazing. He's made 10 grand slam finals in a row. Roddick is probably a top five player in the world, and he's not even close to him. As far as I'm concerned, hands down the greatest tennis player ever.

But, Tiger is probably the greatest golfer ever, and if anyone is in the same realm of dominance over their peers, it's him.

Yeah, you can't really say "Federer is better than Woods because...." The two sports are so different it wouldn't be fair to compare two athletes.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Agreed, and the amazing thing is how much better either of these guys are than their respective revolving doors at #2. Wow.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Nadal in this conversation. On clay, he's better than Federer. Hardcourt and grass? Federer all the way, but man does Nadal play good on clay.

The difference between Federer and Nadal is less than Woods and Mickleson IMO
