Robin19 released [reply 251: New contract - a must read]

RightFieldCoder
I would have to ask, "are you confident with your skills?" My guess is maybe not since you consider that your weakest area. Not to worry just walk in to the office and relax. Dont try to hit the long ball, the scouts like to know that you can hit for average as well. Play the field and introduce yourself to many different teams/scouts. its all about confidence. not to much just enough.

ok, so after a six-month contract i was released by my GM two weeks ago. the first time i talk about it with a friend he says i'm annoying. so my question is, at what point does it indeed become annoying for friends to listen to it, or just for somebody to dwell on it? i'll admit i was pretty mopey to the friends for a week, but have avoided it since, not to bother them. but as i'm not the most experienced person with player-GM relationships and their pitfalls, i'm unsure of the point i should be fine and the point i should be past it.

i've been tempted tonight to write to the former GM just to see how things were going, but i think that might be unduly punnishing myself, and think i may at least avoid it until tomorrow morning when i've calmed down some.

well, the GM wrote back, and wrote as you would to a pal and nothing more. I'm not going to write back. maybe the GM will write back later wondering how I've been, but i'll make sure instead of pleading to be brought back (a GM who knows you're desperate wouldn't ever give you a good contract, anyway), i'll have to be sure my response is more of the "you made a mistake by cutting me" variety, and that i can accept either AAA top-prospect status or nothing at all.

i'd made some personality sacrifices to be with this team, and today i'm slowly realizing it was a strong and positive trait of mine, and as happy as i was about being with that team, i shouldn't do that. i was about ready to ask for a ML contract, but maybe i was saved from a short and unhappy ML career.

so where do people go to meet possible gms?

If you have any female friends, have them set you up and/or put in a good word with their single friends. I met several girls this way (including my current GM) because your female friend can more or less act as a "reference" for you. It's a lot easier than trying to get anywhere with a random girl, who will be very wary and on the defensive for any guy who starts hitting on them. You'll also have sort of a buffer and something in common with a girl, if you share a mutual friend.

yeah, friends with GMs who are already hooked up is the best way. don't know if i'd ask directly to be hooked up. you'll eventually meet their friends in social situations, and your friend will become that go-between if a particular single GM is interested. plus you don't get market with that "desperate" tag.

i don't really have that option, but some others:

Volunteer work--check the recent thread. a lot of girls there, and you're automatically a kind, giving person. plus you feel better about your self even if you don't meet anyone. and it only has to be one afternoon a week.

Church Group--if you're religious, many churches have singles groups. this can be a tricky scene in my experience, though, but i won't elaborate.

clubs--meeting a GM who already shares an interest of yours.

community classes-i've heard they can be good places to meet people.

otherwise i'll sometimes go to art gallery openings or lectures at a college. sometimes i'll look through to paper to see if some small event is being hosted somewhere. stuff like wine socials or art shows sound kinda lame, and they usually are, but it's not like you can't just walk out if you don't see anyone in there you like.

sometimes i think that in the end, you just have to do what you enjoy doing, and not for the sake of meeting chicks--one usually shows up.

ooh, another one that I know works: Become a doctor.

Milwaukee- In a surprise announcement today, ewizabeff revealed that she had quietly given a minor league contract to sgtcluels during the off season. While the media was caught up in the declining value of the free agent market, ewizabeff saw the opportunity to bring her organization to a truly competitive level by signing a young superstar who had been flying under the radar (most recently in an independent league) after an earlier stint in the majors. This acquisition was truly a gamble for ewizabeff,; she has been reluctant to extend contracts to any players from outside the organization, preferring to let her fellow GM's take risks on the free agent market. Early reports from spring training are good. All evaluations from coaches point to sgtcluels making a Kapler-esque comeback in the major leagues.

Details of the deal appear to include a guaranteed starting position in the high minors no later than June 1. After that date ewizabeff expects to begin negotiations for a longer term contract, with AAA or major league potential. She released the following statement:

"I'm truly excited for sgtcluels to be a part of this organization. His agent tells me he's been a fan of the team for quite some time, although we only started talking about the possibility of him playing for us a few months ago. He's a five-tool player that will hopefully become an asset to the major league club in the future. Just give him some time to feel comfortable with the team, and we're confident we'll be able to find a place for him in the starting lineup."

Milwaukee - After putting up monster numbers in his most recent comeback attempt, ewizabeff and SgtClueLs are rumored to have agreed to terms on a long term deal. A press announcement has been scheduled on November 20th that sources say will confirm the deal. According to a reliable source the length of the contract will allow future hall of a famer SgtClueLs to retirement with the club that allowed him to revive his major career. SgtClueLs released the statement "I 'm thankful for the opportunity to prove that I could make a come back, and I owe my best to the fans the club to bring the series back into town. I will give 110% every day until we achieve our dream of a world championship".

Thanks all. And we wouldn't have ever met if it wasn't for this site. Weird... the cards just kind of fell into place.
I was going to say, you may as well move right on to the Thanks, brewerfan.net! thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif But my post looks less self-serving now that you've acknowledged it first.

Also, I can't resist specifying that sgt means "cards" with a small "c". Right?!?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

After being unceremoniously dumped out of the Japanese league last fall, Kilgore has signed up for a AA tryout. "I just couldn't pass up the fringe benefits which include professional massages and the ability to try out for other teams."

[/blue]Can't believe the positive reaction here. Principessa has been outperforming her peripherals for the past few years and she is bound to regress.[blue/]

(congratulations)

I think you mean ewizabeff, and you scared TooLiveBrew. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
