I HAD THE BEST WEEKEND EVER!

Friday night I meet woman #1. 24 years old, cute, somewhat funny, we had a blast.

Saturday night I meet woman #2. She's my old roommate's fiance's boss. I spend about 45 minutes trying to muster up the courage to go talk to her... I finally do it, here's the conversation play by play:

Me: "hey, I'm Brendan, Emily's friend, if you didn't remember the introduction earlier. I know this sounds extremely lame because I'm terribly shy when it comes to talking to women at clubs, it's not my thing. I just want to tell you that I think you're absolutely gorgeous and I'd love to take you out to dinner sometime."

Her: (huge blush) "yeah, that'd be great"

Me: (huge sigh of relief) "that's great because I have spent an hour trying to figure out something clever to say to you and that's all I could gush out"

we talked for a little bit, and i told her if she got a call from a Milwaukee area code phone, that it would be me. her face lights up,

Her: "you're from Milwaukee?? what part?".

Me: "Germantown".

Her: "Wow, I lived in Mequon for a while back in the day".

Me: "no kidding, I lived off of Mequon Rd."

Quickly we figure out that I graduated high school the year she graduated college. I don't think 30 constitutes a cougar, and I will be very careful when I tease her about that.

Ask me in a year also about 30 Bucky. Looks like we are on the opposite ends of the spectrum now with the new prospects. For the longest stretch of time the former players were a little bit older than me. It was fine except that so many of them want to sign Major league contracts so soon. The last player was 3 years younger, and she wanted a Major League contract pretty quick too, so that mindset probably isn't relative to age that much. Hopefully the new prospect doesn't want a Major League deal after only 4 months. I am a firm believer of working your way up through the system. Gotta make sure the walk to strike out ratio is acceptable before being promoted. Whatever that means.

in my experience, a GM's age doesn't too much play into wanting to sign players to ML contracts quickly. to me, it's been all on an individual basis. i don't mean that as "let's not stereotype" baloney, since stereotypes just save everyone time, but that it just hasn't played out that way for me.

i've always figured 34 to be the minimum cougar age. no basis for that, just 34.

I have now entered the All Star break in my season. My player has decided to take a trip to Minnesota to see her family. I plan on enjoying the break for it has been a long season so far. I don't know if I'm going to have anything left for the stretch run. I might have to make a deadline deal to bring in a top of the line starting pitcher. We'll see. I do anything I can to win games.

I just asked my old team for a workout and was denied. I was told that I'm a good player and teammate but now isn't the time to rejoin the team.

in other words, I asked my ex if we could be back together or take things easy and see how things go, but she said no because she doesn't want to be in a relationship right now. Crushed.

That's a tough negotiation, Jason. Sorry to hear the GM didn't bite on your offer. It is their loss for declining a quality player, though.

I'm curious, what are the other players thoughts about dating a GM when you both work in the same organization? Good idea, bad idea?

And what is the best way to get a tryout with GM's? I feel like I have plenty of tools, I have a great baseball IQ, but I can't seem to get in front of many scouts looking for talent. That or maybe I'm just not good at decoding GM talk. Tips?

I don't understand what you are saying. Weren't we talking baseball in this thread? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

It's simple. He enjoyed playing for a certain GM, then he became disgruntled and wanted a trade, but now he wants back into that GM's organization.

And I suppose it is possible to become disgruntled and want to play for the same organization again, but more often than not the same thing you became disgruntled about once will come back at you again--unless it was something minor like the team wasn't spending money on amenities, or the facilities were poor and have since improved.

Ah. Now I understand. I don't understand that love speak.

Yeah that does happen. When you make your disgruntlement public, it's hard to come back. A lot of times the team and the fans turn against you. It has been done before though. To change the subject to basketball, Kobe Bryant did it in LA. He wasn't too popular in that town 3-4 years ago and now he's back and his past is practically forgotten except by jealous haters.

Look at Milton Bradley. He keeps getting chances with many GM's despite screwing up time and time again, but yet he still keeps producing when he gets the proper playing time.

My advice to you would be to do whatever your GM says if you want to get back into favor with the team. Then they might give you more playing time. It will really pay off when you start hitting home runs and the crowd goes wild.

not sure how many people read this thread anymore but I have a question

is it possible to love someone, then fall out of love with that person, then fall back in love with them?

Good question; also...Why is it, that if a man kills another man in battle it's called heroic; yet if he kills a man in the heat of passion, it's called murder?

yeah, that's my problem, too. Once I get the tryout, I'm usually golden, but it's getting that tryout in the first place.....In the end I've been realizing it's about the player just going out to do what he enjoys doing, and the GMs will eventually show up. Plus, if you're already doing something you enjoy, you already have something to talk about/something in common.

i can only imagine who rough it would probably be if a player and a GM break up but then still have to see each other at work. awful.

Well I have entered into Winter talks with another organization.

Things seem to be progressing well over the phone, since we have decided to have a face-to-face meeting next Wednesday.

On the surface this appears to be an organization I would usually play for, so we'll see if I can at least get an invitation to spring training next Wednesday.

Sure it is.

You go play for another team for awhile and realize your previous organization had it all, but at the time you left you just didn't see it that way.

We are talking about baseball, I think the poster was talking about Dave Bush.

Indeed.

For every GM you sign with who makes you think the team you're playing for will be like the 2001 Seattle Mariners, you end up being with the 2002 Brewers instead. That is where good scouting comes in. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

This new organization is making a strong push to get me on their team. It appears that I won't even have to attend spring training.

After a long talk last night, seems that I've already been penciled into the depth chart, with a starting spot on...I'd say probably their AA affiliate. And all they have seen is my career stats and baseball cards.

Wednesday night looks to be my first start with this new organization. With the way talks have been going, I wouldn't be suprised if I'm immediately promoted to AAA and named the top prospect in the organization.

hmm, so sounds like one of those GMs who wants to sign someone to a ML contract as soon as possible.

It's odd I meet so many GMs in their 20s yet who think they're getting old and need to sign a player long-term as soon as possible.

Well this is a bit different. We are both pushing 40 years of age now. We've both been in the Majors before, but were released.

I've got one t-ball player running around and this GM has three little leaguers in her organization.

I prefer to think my baseball card and stats just look that damn good. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

EDIT: Maybe I'm not getting the terminology down correctly. Neither one of us is looking to get into the Majors again or have any more t-ball players. It's AAA from now on, well for me at least. If some GM wants me in the Majors, well, tough luck. I'm content to dominate the AAA ranks.
