Robin19 released [reply 251: New contract - a must read]

RightFieldCoder
After a quick look at an east coast prospect during memorial day weekend, Ewizabeff is happy to announce that the prospect will be making a visit to Milwaukee next weekend for an extended workout session. If all goes well and the player feels he is a good fit for the organization, Ewizabeff may be inclined to offer a short-term contract, with an option to renew. This has the potential to be a risky signing, as contract terms would allow the player to remain on the east coast, making himself available only for occasional weekend series. However, because of his incredible potential and high-impact performance, the organization is willing to allow this contract stipulation. Updates on negotiations will be provided after next weekend's workout.

all the best with your scouting Ewizabeff. very unique to have team representation on this thread.

GAME05 has a tryout tomorrow. The two sides have talked only briefly, though have not yet met in person. GAME05 has seen a small picture of the interested team, though the team has only received whatever scouting report was written up by fans of both sides. GAME05 really has no idea what to expect. Currently, he is playing for a AA team, but has refused further promotion, declining numerous invitations to play at a higher level. Though GAME remains with the AA for now (kinda-sorta, but don't think what you're thinking), he is still a little sad knowing the hurt feelings this will cause the farm team, despite the inevitability of his leaving to play for another team once another offer is made.

Whatever the outcome of tomorrow's tryout, GAME remains optimistic about the future. He believes another team has shown some very slight interest, and that he should be able to get a tryout by simply asking, though he has not seen this other team in about five weeks. It is believed that GAME05 will keep up contact with this secondary team on Sunday to maintain a mutual interest, but will hold off on directly asking for a tryout until a more-formal decision is reached on tomorrow's tryouts.

GAME05 had been enjoying himself tonight, trying his best to help a totally clueless teammate and friend sign on with his own team. GAME received word that an ex-team was on her way, which signaled the end of GAME's night, as he made tracks for the door (said team would certainly have heard of GAME's sudden departure). GAME was released maybe eight months ago and replaced by a star AAA prospect. Is it so bad that GAME05 has no real desire to talk with this former team and might possibly feel awkward? Or should GAME05 just say 'whatever' and have no problem with this? He is curious what this brewerfan union has to say about proper behaviour--what might be a normal reaction or if this might have been going too far to avoid the ex-team.

It seems typical that GAME05 would not want to associate with his former team, especially if he were to feel the team treated him poorly. That said, it can't hurt to be civil and conduct oneself with professionalism if by chance you encounter a former team.

I second the "good luck" comment on scouting, Ewiz. Those multi-city commitments can be difficult, but for special players exceptions can definitely be made.

This just in: An inside source with knowledge of the situation has informed us it would appear that thablingster is in the opening stages of contract negotiations with an organization. Our source, who is unnamed due to not being authorized to comment, was quoted as saying the prospective team's GM has a lengthy summer vacation planned and would prefer not to begin contract talks until after the vacation is completed, but both player and organization "seem to share similar interests, philosophies, and goals, and potentially would be interested in pursuing talks when it is favorable for both sides." We will update any further developments as they occur.

As far as post-release relations, it's always good to try and maintain a working relationship. However, sometimes, despite the best of intentions, some remain bitter after their release. I had to cut a player loose a while back, and despite mutual success in other areas, the player I DFA'd is still very hostile. Sometimes you have to focus on how the transaction benefited your organization.

It's also come to my attention through unnamed sources that JumpinMacFlash is contemplating the idea of making a contract proposal to an organization sometime in the near future. Current obligations for JMF will probably put an official offer on hold until the end of the college season, but both sides seem to be receptive to a long-term offer. Negotiations are temporarily put on hold for the time being. Also, despite strong confidence, anticipation and lack of doubt, JMF is reportedly still nervous as hell at the idea of that kind of commitment.

GAME is happy to report that his initial tryout went well, and both sides seem eager for another meeting. GAME's only regret on the afternoon is that he is a big nervous wimp and did not make an ovation to grab the team's hand during their walk around the ballpark, when clearly that's what he should have done.

It is always hard to overcome the nerves in your first BP appearance infront of new scouts. You get caught between wanting to do too much and fear doing not enough so the team may feel you're not a good fit for their organization. As long as you showed off some of your tools, even if you didn't hit any balls into the upper deck you should be fine.

In a related story, CRACKLEY has signed yet another year-long minor-league deal, and couldn't be happier. CRACKLEY was heard telling his closest teammates: "I'm very happy I can hold off a promotion to the big leagues with one of those silly long-term contracts. I enjoy my current team, and I like these one year "lease" contracts. I get paid good enough to pay the bills, I get to play ball on a regular basis, and management seems to treat me very well at the present time. I have a feeling the treatment is due to the fact management is hoping for a solid rock deal to last for years." CRACKLEY is aware that with his second job, working nights, weekends and holidays for the next 10-15 years, management will get tired of him never being able to show up for practice, or publicity events, but always asking to "just play ball." CRACKLEY is also quoted saying "I dont want management to take half of my contract back years down the road once I'm fat and old. I was the one that worked for my money, I want to keep it."

In other news, an unfortunate event occurred for one of CRACKLEY's teammates. In a surprise deal, CRACKLEY's teammate, who would like to stay anonymous until more details of the deal are known, during a random, one day minor league workout, the teammate found out a couple weeks later he made a long term deal that won't materialize for another 9 months. This details of the deal will be hairy and has the potential of being a damper on his long-term financial goals, but is quoted stating: "I am trying to keep a positive outlook on the situation, I seem to be getting along with this team since I found out about the deal. I am looking forward to settling down, and hope my deal turns into a left hander that can throw 99mph with accuracy and a nasty curve."

That would be sweet.

all the best to your roommate, Crackley. but ah, the "just play ball" contracts. i've seen those things turn into minor-league deals without the player ever realizing it.

it's an old book, but I *highly* recommend that all players in our Union read "How to Win Friends and Influence People." then just substitute "friends" for "girls." (the influence people section doesn't matter as much). it's an easy read and worth reading several times. in no time, you will be adding 4-5 mph to your fastball and increase your command. it's not about games or dishonesty, but deals how to genuinely attract a GMs attention once you meet them.

What level is this prospect in your organization? (A, A+, AA, or AAA) Or is he just drafted and in the rookie league? What does it take to work your way up the organization? I'd like to know.

In an odd turn of events, the prospect actually caught the eye of the GM while he was trying out for another team in New York. The GM and player both believed that the Wisconsin organization would be a better fit, and decided to forego the draft and instead proceed via independent free agency. Although the terms of the deal are still being discussed, if it is successful, the player will likely enter the organization at the AA level, given his advanced skills and positive rapport with the GM.

In order to advance in the organization, the player will be expected to make an effort to attend weekend series in Wisconsin, and encourage the GM to do some additional scouting on future trips to NY. At this point, the GM is hesitant to promise any advancement, as she hasn't had much luck with long-term contracts. The GM refuses to make any further speculation on this player until she receives more information from the weekend workout.

Well let me know how that player works out. If it doesn't I know some people who will be available in the Rule 5 draft this winter.

It's getting to that point where you ask the question:

"Do you add this player to the 40 man roster or do you leave them unprotected after 5 seasons with the organization?"

my third meeting with the GM coming up, that time when you normally make the goodnight gesture to the GM to tell her you like the organization. however i'm thinking that maybe this GM moves a little bit slower with players, and I may back off on this for a little while longer. i wouldn't want to scare this GM away.

Yeah well that would depend on the organization. Are we talking about a year in and year out World Series contender here, or are we talking about a bottom of the league GM?

It would appear initial reports that thablingster was in contract negotiations with a team were premature. Our source, who once again is unnamed, reports that the player has some concerns about the GM's ability to communicate with players during the season and the GM's true interest in signing the player. Our source also was quoted as saying it appears negotiations have stalled for now. thablingster refused comment, but his agent released a statement saying he would "continue to explore available options and assist his client in finding a team which is a good fit."

Are you a hired gun for the stretch run?

I actually don't have too much interest in any contract that doesn't have Major League possibilities (if I understand you to be talking about short-term contracts). it's funny, though, when I know I'm just a hired gun I turn into Branyan, but with a classy organization I get too cerebral at the plate. amazing how a little fear of rejection changes a player.

well, third tryout tonight. We'll just have to play it by ear, be a little more mindful of the GM's signs. but it's getting that time when you're either offered a contract or you become friends of the organization.

Just received word that the player is waiting to board the plane to Milwaukee. Starting to get nervous about contract negotiations, but confident the workout will produce positive results. Player seems to be ready to hit home runs.

Well this is an interesting thread.

I'm considering a tour of Japan.

I've always wanted to play in that league.

I got close to that, played in the minors in India for a three years, even got called up to the majors.

It was a very nice league, but we had different ideas of how to play the game. Got let go after two years in the majors.

After many media inquires, GM Ewizabeff has yet to make a public statement regarding the NYC prospect's extended workout in Milwaukee this weekend. However, a source close to the organization provided the following details:

Initial reports from management were good - the prospect's public workouts at Miller Park, attended by the GM and other upper management, were very successful. Other GMs and baseball operations staff were quick to compliment Ewizabeff on the scouting of such a great prospect. However, private negotiations with the prospect and the GM may not have been successful. Both side neglected to discuss any serious contract terms prior to the player's return flight to NYC. Ewizabeff is said to be continually scouting the prospect, but at this time it is not clear if the player is still interested in joining the organization. Forecasts that a short-term contract could be signed by the all-star break appear to be misguided.

EDIT: wow. Freudian slip.

Girl, you might want to read the first sentence again.

AmyintheSouth may have been released. While she very much enjoys playing for the team, it is unlikely she will ever procure a starting position in the organization, so this release might be for the best. One other team has been in contact but was only looking for a spot starter.
