Robin19 released [reply 251: New contract - a must read]

GAME, whatever happened with the previous story and the phone number?
"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

This is a pretty sweet thread I might add. I dont really have anything to add because I have a lifetime contract without an opt out clause unless the disorderly conduct clause is invoked. I dont see this coming into play however since both under contract are baseball purists and play by the rules.

kinda forgot about the last story until i read this thread again. I had only two guesses at who the team might have been who left the phone number. I ran into the GM as she was walking her dog one night and as un-creepily as possible, asked her if she'd left a note on my car, but she hadn't. an agent of mine advised me to say "well, I HOPED it was you" but I decided against it.

The second guess is what I'm going with, that it was a team who I'd recently been released from playing some joke on me. unlikely, but it helped me deal, regardless.

But either way, I've talked to the cute dogwalking GM on the occasions I run into her outside, or she always gives a wave at least (i'm often on the phone, my excuse to be outside to "coincidentally" run into her.) She doesn't seem very anxious to sign me, but should things not work out with the team I'm hopefully seeing on Saturday, I'll still have to ask if she's open to a tryout. so i suppose the note on the car had a sort of non-conclusion, but at the very least, another GM at least knows my name. very small chance at signing, but a chance nonetheless.

cell phone. plus it's warm now in NC at night, so nice to walk around outside.

Oh, NC. I imagined you having a phone somewhere outside, maybe in the garage, and talking on it and freezing your butt off because you want a chance to talk to this other team.

JSOnline reports that SgtClueLs has recently opted out of his Life Long contract signed in 2003 after discovering that the teams GM have been with holding game information and using an out of market player, violating the terms of the contract. After spending one year in the minors working on fundamentals and showing remarkable progress, SgtClueLs has signed on with a new Team. Early reports from the field quote SgtClueLs saying "This is a very new team, but early indications point to the potential of playoff caliber team. We just need to take it one at bat at a time, and one pitch of the time". Spirits are high with the club as the season is only a few weeks old, but have proven to be a smashing success

JSOnline is unable to contact previous GM for comments on the recent transactions.

very nice Sgt. all the best with the new team.

well, Team A has not called me back after the aborted tryout. i feel calling the team first would sound like they're my only chance at playing ball, and then i wouldn't get a favorable contract (if one was even offered). with Team A, i'll likely be breaking off talks very soon, even though the stadium is a very beautiful place to play.

Team B (who also has a beautiful stadium) has not yet contacted me on my suggestion of a tryout this Saturday, but I'm only assuming the GM has been working late at the office. I'm trying to tone down my anxiousness, as I would otherwise be too disappointed if I was cut immediately.

Even though there's been no hint of a contract from Team B, wanting to end talks with Team A is in part becuase I'm suddenly more interested in playing for Team B, and I don't want the GM upset (should she find out), in case she thinks I'm leveraging one team against another.

There is nothing wrong with leveraging different teams for better contracts. As long as the other team isn't tampering and talking to a player still under contract. If Team B complains, inform the GM that you are looking for a long term contract and will keep talking to teams until one puts an offer on the table.

so if i clear waivers do I get sent down? or get cut?

I like the team that I play for, it just might not be a good fit right now for both player and team.

Generally, I've found that if a team puts you on waivers, they're not real committed on keeping you. Personally, I'd declare free agency once you clear waivers, but I hate giving that kind of advice out without knowing the situation on a level which I currently don't.

so what is taking a break or lets ease back on things and see how they go? does that mean I'm on the trading block?
I would say DFA, a.k.a. "purgatory". She's buying herself time to decide to keep you or let you go.

Take it from me.... it's really good to have that one really big career year and then get one of those Chan Ho Park, Gary Matthews Jr. type contracts like I did.

Except, judging from your ability to get contract after contract... teams must STILL really be high on your potentialhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

CHAPEL HILL, NC

In a wild turn of events, right-center fielder BuckyTuba was offered a stunning contract after an rigorous off-season training plan. Shadows of doubt were cast at the end of last season due to his physical conditioning. "I'm not sure if he would have been able to last a entire season at the weight he was at," one scout said, "however, his training has cut his shape into something more desirable, and if he wasn't given a contract by our organization... I'm sure he would have been given a deal. We had to make a move." It has been said that he had been getting two to three contract offers a week, but decided he wanted to play for a contender.

BuckyTuba spent all last season as an Operator at Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant. He did a magnificent job in his first year there, and some said he was the next in line to move quickly up the chain to become a Manager at the big show, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. BuckyTuba chose to put off those chances to be a manager for a couple years so he could play a for a championship with a promising team.

What makes this deal more interesting is the fact that the team will be without their starting centerfielder for the first two months due to a suspension. This will allow BuckyTuba to get a chance to play everyday for the first two months of his contract, and possibly find a way to carve out a starting role with a strong performance.

(if anyone needs an explanation of the inside jokes or the true story, ask me.... it all makes sense, I promise)
