Adding a link to a message, again

I think I've asked about this before, but couldn't find it.

Here's what I'm doing:

-Clicking on icon that says "insert hyperlink"

-Pasting the url

-adding the title of the link

-clicking "OK"

Nothing happens. No link appears and the box disappears after clicking "OK".

I'm sure it's really easy and I'm just missing something very simple, what?

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

I think you're missing the text you have to link. The title field creates an optional tool tip. The text field shows what appears in the message itself.

If you want to create a link from scratch, hit the link button and you'll see this:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/link_from_scratch.gif

Note which boxes are required. The url and text fields are the ones that must be filled in. (Note that REQUIRED BOX and OPTIONAL TOOL TIP won't be in the link box that you see. I typed those in myself for clarity.)

I believe most people will type the text they want in a message, select (highlight) it, then hit the link button. That will fill in the text box for you.

Selecting text:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/select-text.gif

Result after clicking link button:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/text_to_link.gif

It seems odd to me that the optional title field is filled in automatically. I can't see any use for a tool tip that says the same thing as the link text itself. Unless I add something like the author's name and date, I usually clear that field, leaving it empty.

Again, make sure that the url and text fields are filled in. title is optional.

Let us know if this helps. We have to get you through this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

*Test post*

Brewers lost in Pittsburgh today, here's the JSOnline story:

I think I got it now. It's just weird to put the link in both boxes--at least that's what I think I did.

Thanks again, Casey!

Yuku doesn't convert links that are pasted or typed directly into the editor's WYSIWIG view. ezBoard would do that under some--but not all--circumstances.

If you want to do a 'Cadillac' job of creating a link, this is what can go in the text field:

Turnbow gives up three runs in 8th inning

Putting the headline in the text field and the address in the url field will produce this:

Turnbow gives up three runs in 8th inning

If you hover over the link with your mouse, you'll see that I've also added a tool tip (By Rick Braun, 2007-09-07) by filling in the title field.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
