You might want to check his 2005 stats.

 

You mean the only year he had more hits than strikeouts? Yeah, that was the year I was referring to. Last year only made him worse, because it made him think he could hit 40+ home runs in a year.

There's absolutely no way I can prove this, but I wonder if Billy thrived at least in part due to Butch Wynegar. He knows what to think (Don't try to show your power, let your power show). He isn't always good at implementing that philosophy, though.

 

I also wonder if a weak double play is the product of trying not to strike out. A lot of guys are better hitters if they don't worry about Ks. Billy may be one of them.
