Fraud possibilities with ticket lottery?

rickh150

I recently entered the playoff lottery for the Brewers. I know that everyone is a long shot to win, considering the number of entries. However, does everyone have a fair chance of winning? Meaning, could multiple names be entered for one e-mail address? Also, do names on entry sheets and credit cards need to match? Otherwise someone might put down everyone they know in entries and have the same e-mail address, or create more e-mail addresses. I'm worried that this might be as poorly run as the All-Star picking ballots, in which many voted more times than allowed. It would be nice if everyone had the same chance to win.

Well, the brewers say one entry per person. I'd assume they are checking on that based on name, address, phone number used.

Not sure what you are talking about on All-Star voting, I thought there was no limit on the number of times you could vote. And in any case there was not a requirement to give name, address, and phone number for that.

"In the case of multiple entries for the same individual, only the first entry received will be considered."

I wouldn't see how you could use one email address for multiple enteries any more than you could your own name multiple times. People would be more likely to enter themselves multiple times under different emails, but then they still have to enter their address and phone. There's a chance for fraud, but with a little work on the Brewer's side, it shouldn't be bad.

I think the more likely scenario would be people entering every individual in their household, which really isn't against the rules. But if I were to do that, I'd really just be entering myself multiple times.

There is nothing that states "one entry per household". So, like suggested by "pretendastronaut", could my wife enter too? If you can have multiple entries at one address, what would stop me from just making up names at the same address?

I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if a good number of people enter the lottery more than once. (Personally, for example, I could enter a second time, just using my parents' address, a different e-mail address, and using my first & middle initials rather than my real first name. I'm not going to do it, but I suspect there are plenty of people out there who would...and there's no good way to verify in that situation.)

I didn't break any of the rules, but I did give friendly reminders to people I know to sign up...assuming that they will sell me a ticket if they win.

Otherwise, despite being a poor college student, I'll fork out over $100 for a terrace seat to the NLDS. The future looks bright, but things happen and this could be our only trip to the playoffs for awhile. Look at the Tigers, they might not be in again for awhile with the future Cleveland has...
